Sounds to me like the third stanza says grief instead of dreams and grievin instead of dreamin. I may be wrong.
Brilliant minimal song, a great album to start off the new year! |

If you've heard the rest of James Blake's music, it may come clear that Feist's song is perfect for the underrated talent James Blake possesses. Yes, it is simple and the instrumentals are not complex either, but what makes James Blake so powerful is the fact that his silence in a song is just as important as those two piano chords. Listening to this song, I'm left in the silence waiting for the song to continue and that's exactly what Blake is trying to achieve. Many times, music is simplified to create more emotion. Give Radiohead's Videotape a listen and you may understand the effect of a stripped down recording. |

I can't help but feel like the "Because we separate like ripples on a blank shore
In rainbows" part is about oil spills. It separates from the water and ripples with a reflection much like a rainbow. That would fit Radiohead's ongoing theme of humanitarianism and also fits the album's title "In Rainbows" for the albums theme of destruction played in the lyrics. |

Best on the album, lyrically IMO. the "you" is all the people who need constant accompaniment in order to feel secure or at least pleased and he's saying you will never feel the way I do because you'll never understand the enjoyment possible in solitude. |
