My interpretation is that he's been in a confusing phase and he got stuck in it for awhile because of indecisions. Finally, he's come into some kind of resolution and he's ready to leave whatever it is behind and take chances. IDK, this is Panic! at the Disco. Can't take their lyrics and videos literally. But that's my shot at it. I like this song. And I love the Vices and Virtues album!:-) |

The classic tale of love and loss. The song is about the miserable party of the breakup. One party moves on, the other's still very much in love. His mates try to cheer him up over several rounds of alcohol - making him try to forget the girl. The effect though is the opposite. Inebriated and obviously less inhibited, he goes to the girl's place (or calls her)to tell her he still loves her and he gets - NOTHING. OUCH! I love this song. For me it's the best song in the new album. Wanted to vote a million of LIKEs in Youtube for this song. :-) |

I love this song! Just wondering why the few comments. Anyway, my interpretation of this song is that the guy was in love with this girl and he said he'd do anything for her - or so he thought. When the time came, well - "It wasn't part of the plan." Well, he wasn't ready for whatever it is - the next step? Commitment? And so ends the relationship. |

Wow. First to comment. Before I start, when I heard this on the radio I thought it was a woman who's singing it. I was surprised. The vocalist has a high voice. :-) I guess the message of the song is not to be afraid to express yourself. Never be afraid of who you are and what you're capable of. Show your talent to the world. We humans are made to the image and likeness of the Divine. (I don't want to get into the religious, but I heard somewhere The Delays is a Christian alt-pop band.) |

Everyone here have a good interpretation of the song as it's made for the movie "Eclipse." Florence and the Machine pretty much nailed the essence of the whole book (or movie) with just this one song. But movie/book aside, the song writing is fantastic. It has a story and can stand on its own. |

| I think it's about a relationship with both people changing and both of them going on different roads. They still have feelings for each other but are asking themselves if they should save their relationship or go on a break.
