"On the night you left, I came over And we peeled the freckles from our shoulders Our brand new coats were so flushed and pink And I knew your heart I couldn't win" Obviously there was problems with the relationship, being the freckles. Not literally, but its a metaphor. They "peeled the freckles from", their "shoulders", meaning that they figured out the problems and how to fix them. "brand new coats" meaning that they broke up. "And i knew your heart i couldn't win" The problems were just to hard to deal with. |

I feel that this song has some relation into a war of some sort. All his "brothers and sisters unite" are his fellow soldiers that he has come to know and that he loves. And the "unite" of course means to come together. "Break down, break down", right before going into war im sure many people "break down" and cry, and chris is saying that is alright to do so. "Gotta spread love around", letting the "brothers and sisters" know that they are loved and that they are not alone in what they are about to experience. "Brothers and sisters feel fine", after they are done breaking down, they know what they are about to go into, they accept that, they are sometimes at peace with what is happening. Which leads into: "Like this feeling you've found", knowing that there is no turning back now. The brothers and sisters aren't scared anymore. "But just stay down 'Cos some sounds you'll feel...", the sounds of firing of guns and bombs. They must stay down for their sakes. "And it's me they're looking for" this is the part that throws me off. But, i have a theory. Chris is having a dream, and in this dream he is the cause of this war. so it is him, they are after. "I will never survive", and its inevitable that he will be caught for his wrongful doing. [Repeats] "it's gonna be alright", chris wakes up, realizing its only a dream. Possibly, this happened when he was a child, and his mother woke him up saying this. There really is no way of proving this. But this is how i interoperated it. |
