My first guess was that this could be about abortion, or at least a child in a mother's womb about to be aborted, the child wishes it could breathe and be outside in the world and actually have the CHANCE to hide from the needle of abortion. It's blood is drained from it's body and it faints, most likely never to be alive again. It says "I know your face, your hands" most likely because it inherited the hands from his/her mother and father.
But I also guess that it could be a ghost wishing it wasn't dead and back in it's human form. "Fear we would meet here in the misty outside" possible nthe spirit world. |

I believe this song is based off of the witch trials of the early American times. Specifically the Salem witch trials. And if anyone has read/watched/seen The Crucible, then I believe "Naked shoulders" and mentioning the dancing is reference to win the girls danced naked in the woods.
And the line "Unaware of the common men who would judge what they didn't understand" would definitely reference to what the Puritans thought of witchcraft.
And I also believe that "Don't wake from your sleep" is when the girl witches would try to cast spells or accuse the other women they didn't like. |
