| The Fray – Say When Lyrics | 15 years ago |

You know, for someone who claims that "there's no listener who can honestly say they know the meaning of every fray lyric", you certainly seem to think you understand this song. "for all those people who think every song by the fray is about love and relationships and blahblahblah, please listen to their songs and read the lyrics a little closer. this song is about the war." Nowhere in there did you say "in my opinion" or "my interpretation is". Songs are all about interpretation; you even acknowledged this when you said that nobody can know the meaning of each lyric by The Fray. So how can you say something as bold as "this song is about the war" and completely dismiss the interpretation of the song being about love and relationships? Personally, I found the lyrics used too many personal references to be talking about an army. Things such as "you're breathing slowly" and the entire first two stanzas sound like they're more about a person rather than a group, first of all, and about a romantic relationship, second of all, because I find it too sensual to be from God's perspective (ie. "I want you"). While I believe that your interpretation is entirely plausible and sufficiently backed-up with evidence from the lyrics, I also think that my interpretation is sound. I would appreciate if you did not invalidate my opinions in the future. I'm really not trying to sound like an awful, grumpy person, but I do believe that you should be careful with your words. Thank you for your thoughts. I enjoyed reading your take on this song. :) |
