I love all the different meanings you people are making, seriously, the one about U.S. foreign policy was classic. Now I'll toss my own meaning in there: Personally I see this song from the perspective of "Jim" watching "Bob" push away a woman Bob loves, Jim sees this as stupid and immature (She's just like you so why keep doing what you do? why cut a friend?) and Jim is wondering why Bob is still subjecting himself to this despair (You could have heel-toed to another place) Jim eventually comes to the conclusion that Bob can't let go (I know your heart can't grieve), but he also can't commit (What your eyes won't see). Wings in this context means friends, Jim is concerned (Worried and wondering) because Bob is losing all his friends due to his heart problems. If your wings fall down you lose all your support and can't maintain flight. The dreams he's talking about are really Bob's future. He's losing all his friends (all your wings are falling down) and his life is going down the drain (all your dreams are over now) because Bob's lost the ability to love (I know your heart can't grieve) and he's willfully blind to his pain (what your eyes won't see). There's my two cents. |
