| Guster – Hercules Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
The message I get from this song--especially the first two stanzas--is "Do what you want with me; I know I'm doomed". It seems like the singer has sacrificed his well-being for something/someone he loves, but in more of a selfish way than anything else, and he's realized too late that he made the wrong choice. That's how I see it, anyhow. @deweywins, I thought the same about Odysseus vs. Hercules. And I never noticed how much this album mentions water. That's a good point. |

| Brandon Boyd – Courage and Control Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Pen. Did you think I meant something else? | |
| Brandon Boyd – Courage and Control Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I need to find a way to thank Brandon Boyd for writing this. I'm struggling with depression and I've been tempted to cut lately; instead, I wrote "Courage and Control" on my legs. I just needed to share that. | |
| The Meg And Dia Band – What If Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I think that makes sense, except that Meg is the older one, I'm pretty sure... | |
| The Meg And Dia Band – What If Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I think that makes sense, except that Meg is the older one, I'm pretty sure... | |
| Brandon Boyd – Revenge of the Spectral Tiger Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I feel like this is about people trying to stop a problem in society, not realizing that they are at the root of it. Sooner or later, it will come back to haunt them. | |
| Paramore – Let the Flames Begin Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| This is one of my characters' theme songs. (I'm a writer.) | |
| Incubus – Anna Molly Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I thought the same thing about the play on words with "Anna-Molly" and "anomaly". | |
| Brandon Boyd – Mirror of Venus Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Then again, I assumed he was making a reference to Venus, the love goddess--Aphrodite's Roman parallel. | |
| Brandon Boyd – Here Comes Everyone Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| That's what I thought as well, runeofred. | |
| Brandon Boyd – Mirror of Venus Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
That's kind of one of my theories, thedreadedmarco. I also think it could mean that this girl almost doesn't seem real because she's like a reflection of Venus? Like she's not completely herself, but he loves her anyway and she's so mysterious that he wants to go wherever she does--find out more about her, help her along. I don't know. This is just my rambling. |

| Incubus – Dig Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Contrary to most of the comments here, this is my favorite Incubus song. I've always thought of this as a love song. He's telling his significant other that he's not the strongest one out there, telling her to watch over him in case "weakness turns [his] ego up" and "turn[s] into another". He knows she is the only one that can save him from his faults and weaknesses, and if she reminds him that he will always have her, it will buoy him up and help him be who he truly is. I love the sentiment. The guitar has this wonderful vibe to it, Brandon's voice is so powerful, and the lyrics just... Gah. |

| Ben Folds – The Luckiest Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I want to play this song at my wedding. If I end up having one, because I'm really doubting that I can love or be loved at this point. Anyways, it's an absolutely beautiful song. I love that he doesn't care about sounding a little cheesy--he just pours his emotions into a song and knows that people will appreciate them, for the most part. | |
| Ben Folds – Gracie Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| D'aww. I love this song. It makes me want to give people hugs and hand out puppies to everyone or something. | |
| David Archuleta – You Can Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I think this is his best song--maybe because I can relate to some of it. This is just my interpretation. It may not fit with other parts of the song, but... The first stanza in particular hit me really hard the other day. I'm dealing with a lot of personal issues right now, and it's made me wonder if any man will ever love me enough--despite how messed-up I am--to "help me on my feet again" and give me what I've wanted for so long. "Take me where I've never been"... I've never felt that way for anyone, or vice versa, and I want it so badly. And "show me that good things come to those who wait" is a beautiful line. So many people wait for years to find love, and it gets discouraging when it doesn't come. You want to know that the pain is worth it. "Save me from myself" is knowing that you're not helping yourself out of this difficult situation--in my case, depression and not being able to love myself. Only a loved one can make you feel validated and help you realize your potential. "No one's ever done this / Everything was just a lie" is my absolute favorite part of the song. Over the last few months, I've basically stopped believing in love because it all seems like a lie; like a fantasy that will never be real. So, to wrap it up: I think the main theme of the song is that he wants to experience love, to know that it's real, and he knows this person can make that happen as well as pull him out of his doubt. Sorry if it seems like I'm just venting about my own life. I just hope my thoughts bring new insight to someone else. |

| Guster – Love For Me Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I absolutely love this song. It's just... GAH! | |
| Guster – On My Own Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Why have I never heard this song?! I love the lyrics. I think this song is about someone who has too much control over you - "I'm just a tree and you are the wind. " - and learning to let go of them, even if it's hard to be on your own for a while. That's just my interpretation... I could be really far off. |
|
| Guster – Mona Lisa Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I never thought about this song having anything to do with depression, but seeing all the lyrics together - it makes sense. I've experienced depression, and that's basically how it feels. I felt like all my smiles were fake, and I would just sit around "watch[ing] the pouring rain", waiting for things to change. The depression was brought on by a medication I was taking, so it's all over now. Glad it is. I go off on random tangents a lot. Get used to it. XD |

| Guster – Center Of Attention Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I think this was the first Guster song I heard. Ever. | |
| Guster – Keep It Together Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I love this. It's always been kind of a pick-me-up song for me. | |
| Mika – Grace Kelly Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| It reminds me of Queen too. My brother was saying it might be a bit of a tribute to Freddie Mercury. | |
| Guster – Ramona Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I don't think they had kids at this point, but now three of them have daughters. This is a cool interpretation, by the way. | |
| Guster – I Hope Tomorrow Is Like Today Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Hahaha. Guster is an expert with na-nas. They show up in Careful, too. | |
| Guster – Window Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
There are a lot of lyrics missing in this... like the "Throw away those empty fears" in the second verse. And I thought it was "Don't be scared of what you might be *seeing*". But that's just me. Then there's supposed to be a repeat of this: "You say, "Go slow" But something's right behind me I can run away for only so long It will not stop I will come down Oh no" |
|
| Guster – Careful Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Oh oh oh! Epiphany here! "But you can't hide Standing under these stars They know everything They know where you are" The celebrity kind of star kind of gives that a whole knew meaning. He's telling her that fame doesn't let you have any secrets. |
|
| Guster – Careful Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| That's a cool interpretation--never thought of that before. | |
| Guster – Careful Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I saw that too. Bahahaha. | |
| Guster – Hang On Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| May I just point out that these lyrics are horribly messed up? | |
| Guster – Demons Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| This is the theme song for one of my characters. She's a total liar, but she's doing what she thinks is best. | |
| Guster – Demons Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I know! I LOVE those two lines. | |
| Guster – The Prize Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I'm trying to figure out what the prize is. And I can't tell if they say "Or for the prize" or "All for the prize". Is the prize reaching adulthood, then? If so, it's probably "all" like it says on these lyrics. Pardon the rambling. Don't mind me... |
|
| Guster – Fa Fa Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
It should be: Go and run through the hallways And find your way to the door You will end up like always Back where you were before There are also a few repeats and things missing. |
|
| Guster – We Gotta Be Clean Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
This song just makes me laugh. Guster is so hilarious. "What do we do when our shirt is all covered with mustard? (Mustard! Mustard! Mustard!) You may just wear it and wear it and wear it for weeks (No!) Not Guster..." |
|
| Guster – Dear Valentine Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Going off what ellie117 said, I think this song is mainly about love. He's got it so bad for this girl-- he thinks it's a dream, he can't speak, and feels like he's "floating a mile away" from reality. Everything else seems like black and white TV. The feeling is so wonderful that real time is a holiday to him. It's like that quote: "You know you're in love when you can't sleep, because reality is finally better than your dreams." He's also a little worried and confused. Thus, the "Say we'll be OK" part. I'm not totally sure what the last verse could mean. I agree with mfactor, as well. Adam's voice makes me melt, I tell you! I wish he sang more. I love Ryan and all, but Adam has always been my favorite. |
|
| Guster – Dear Valentine Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Actually, in the last stanza, it's "perfectly kept, perfectly neat". That's what it sounds like to me anyway. | |
| Guster – Thirty Seconds Silence Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Seriously! I actually bought this song on iTunes. Best 99 cents I've ever spent. | |
| Guster – (Nothing But) Flowers (Talking Heads cover) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I love this song because it's what inspired one of my stories. I needed ideas SO badly, so I turned to Guster and this song came on. I knonw it's a cover, but I don't have the Talking Heads on my iPod. I think this song is easily understood. There could be deeper meaning to it, or the singer could just be wondering what life would be like with nothing but flowers. |

| Guster – Start It All Over Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
No comments? GASP! I don't know why I'm commenting, since I never seem to have insights that make sense. Ehehe... |
|
| Guster – Bury Me Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Thank you for posting this! I've been trying to figure out what this song means for ages. I'm not good at analyzing lyrics... | |
| Guster – Long Way Down Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Yeah, I agree. This song always makes me tired. I like what Doldrums and wimpy shrimpy said. | |
| Guster – Rise & Shine Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I always thought of it as trying to wake up from a nightmare before it gets too crazy. ("This place is coming to life") But that's not very symbolistic. It's just me being stupid and trying to sound smart. =D | |
| Guster – Dissolve Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I'd never seen so much meaning in this song before. I've always liked it, and I had a feeling it was about death, but... Gah. Guster has amazing lyrics. | |
| Guster – Happier Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Yeah, I know how this feels. "You're lost and you're gone Don't take it so seriously" That's the part that always gets to me. It's almost like it's sarcastic; their friend that's left doesn't seem to care. It's exactly how I feel about one of my "friends". She just distanced herself from me and it doesn't appear to be hurting her at all, while I kind of died on the inside. Wow, cheesy much? Anyway, that's my input for now. |
