i realize that this is most likely about a romantic relationship, but it reminds me of my friendship with my best friend. i'm really ambitious and like to dream about my future, whereas she's the opposite, and i feel like every time i accomplish something it makes her feel worse about herself; which sounds a lot like this part: "I've been condemned by those I love Wishing me the worst as I try my best. But she's the last real thing I've got. I'm cursed by all ambitious thoughts." but getting to the meaning intended in this song, i think it is a lot like what i described above -- he loves her, and she loves him, but she seems to either be bothered by his successes and ambition, or she's threatened that those things are more important to him than she is. "She's saying, "It's too late to wish success, So get undressed and please just come to bed. 'Cause I'm the last real thing you've got. You're cursed by all ambitious thoughts. Is that all you've got?"" this to me doesn't sound like a supportive girlfriend. she's not comforting him, she's pleading with him to choose her over his ambitions. and then the line in the background near the end, "Preparing for faliure from what we've been told" again sounds like she's been discouraging him by telling him he won't succeed anyway, and he's listened to her and chosen her over his ambition and dreams. in some ways, this song reminds me of "i won't share you," by the smiths. any thoughts? |

| It's crazy how much I relate to this song, but also to your comment... My boyfriend was the same way. I listen to sad music almost exclusively, and he didn't understand it at all. I guess I just like being able to feel something... It's so much better than feeling nothing. That line... I love it so much. This is an incredible song. And thank you for making that comment. :) | |

"And I try not to worry, but you've got me terrified It's like your some kind of hurry To say goodbye, say goodbye, say goodbye (afraid this decision represents something else, a cry for help of suicide or something- saying goodbye to their dreams)" I'm so glad you said that, vocopinion! I was looking through the comments on this song just to see if anyone else would think of that. Those lines make me think that he's worried about her committing suicide, because she's displaying one of the warning signs of suicide, which is giving away your possessions. And she's not only letting go of something material, but she's letting go of her dreams, too, which is even harder to do. |
