I'll give you a hand with this one if you don't mind. I think it is probably what you thought it was. I think "Never glimpse the truth-then it's far too late-when they pass away" has to do with people who follow society's rules of living the "right way" in order to find peace and happiness and at the end they find all the time they spent mowing the lawn and planting flowers for the neighbors to look at, would have been better spent enjoying the company of those they love best. People work so hard to make a happy life for their families and all of that stress makes them unable to really connect with anyone on a deep emotional level. The part about "when we find it (love) to try our best to hold it there with our love" means that love is not easy to maintain. Petty arguments and lack of communication cause hurt feelings and a seperation of people who were once so close. The only way to maintain love is with more love. To steal a line from another song "the love you take is equal to the love you make." If everyone in the world shifted their priorities to maintaining healthy loving relationships with others, nobody would steal or cheat or think of others as evil. Instead of world peace seeming insurmountable, it would be the normal, and it would be inconceivable to start a war. |

Kermit and Tepess. How much time have you actually spent studying Hinduism or any eastern religion for that matter? Most meditation is done to find inner peace, but for the more advanced monks it's about finding the source of life (otherwise known as the wheel of Samsara, Shiva, enlightenment, or a thousand other names). Hallucinations can be achieved without drugs, it just takes more concentration, time and seclusion than most people can feasibly achieve in a lifetime. Drugs, when utilized for higher thought are like a short cut. Skip the weeks of fasting and meditation, take some LSD, relax and if you can't feel a presence, a thread connecting us all, you have something wrong with you spiritually. While a "stoner" might be able to understand that everything is connected in ways you may never understand, it doesn't mean that they are stupid. Take a line from zen Buddhism, "don't discriminate so much." p.s. This song says nothing about religion. just because they use a sitar and were meditating in India doesn't mean that the Beatles wanted us all to convert. See the song "Imagine" to get a better feel of how they felt about that subject. |

| Droyce did an excellent explanation. the only thing I haven't seen yet is an interpretation of "the story of a woman on the morning of the war, remind me if you will exactly what we are fighting for" to me it's an obvious reference to Gone With the Wind. The book starts out with scarlet on the porch getting pissed off because the men are more excited about the approaching war than they are about what dress she might wear to a party. The men are bickering over what the war is about and the young men just want a chance to fight. As the story progresses it's about learning to deal with the hardships of life on your own. Scarlet lost everything in the war and became a better person because of it. | |
