ps: *** He's there in case I wandered off *** d weak guy after being threatend,though has stopped directly coming in dis guy's way, but he's still not completly gone.. he still can't let go of his feelings for the girl... and is sticking around, hoping dat just in case dis bully goes away (get's fucked up/ or finds some other chick/or whatever), he'll get his opportunity... *** He's scared because I warned *** this has already been explained... in d prev comment o mine.. *** He's scared in case I want it all *** also this weak guy's not sure, if d other guy is actually completly into her (like love) and wants to go all in..... or just havin some temporary fun, till he finds his next chick to screw around... *** He's scared 'cause I want *** however, though d weak guy's not sure how serious d other guy is... he still is scared... scared that wheter he'll ever get his chance... scared wheter it would be safe for dis girl to be arnd dis kinda guy... hence, scared jst coz d aggresive guy want's this girl... no matter how much or how less... *** All in all the clock is slow Six color pictures all in a row Of a marigold *** what dez lines mean, is a complete mystry to me... i think based on my reasoning(mentioned above), so far d entire song fits very well.... but then dat's just half o d complete story.... unless we get d complete pic, it all remains probabilistic... :( |

what my understanding is, it's bout 2 guys likin d same girl... one's all dominant and aggresive kinda guy.... other more of gentle... so d aggresive guy's bullied d other one to stay away, and not get himself killed/seriously injured/anything on those lines... and then d song's speaks of the weak guy's fear... actually kurt has said a lot of times bout being bullied, early in his life... so this is a common n persistant theme.. in many of his songs...being bullied by someppl, effect of paren't divorce, his turning misantrhope.... not liking ppl in general, then feeling his album's sold out... and all those who once were bullyin him, are now njoyin his music.. he's therefore not intrested in going on wid it... also some moronic fuckers raped some chick listening to polly n dat made him feel all d more worse... he also didn't quite njoy d audience in a genuine way... fetl guily for dat....etc etc... so from dis kind of perspective, i think d above intrepretation would make atleast some sense... but d second para's bit difficult to fig out.... any one knows what does MARIGOLD signify here? plz fellas, put ur brain to useful thinking, and try to come up wid what does MARIGOLD signify... and if u have more info, read somewhere, or anything related.. plz share.... and i sincerly request you all dat utilize more space here for actual interpretation first... dat would be in greater common good.... cheers, n peace --< |

i think catchherInTheDark + ibstrumming have come quite close to what could be the actual meaning, or what at the very least best fits this abstract, vague song. but i think ibstrumming comment wouldn't get much of visibility, coz it's hidden as reply, instead of actual comment... so i think i'll just copy-paste it here for the greater common good of all... "(begin quotes, ibstrumming's views, not mine !) catcherinthedark- I think you are right about the aqua-seafoam shame from Nevermind- good call! Kurt had previously thought of his music as a lark and really struggled with his success, since mainstream society had always treated him (and his friends) unkindly growing up(also, he wanted to be punk- but could never quite emulate his influences properly). I think the first verse was a tribute to his first real friend growing up, who was gay...throughout this song, he gave his friend a voice to the mainstream, telling everyone -look- I was born this way- so he sarcastically apoligizes for being the way he is...and all of his rights for being "gay" were subsequently not the same as other folks, so, again, Kurt sarcastically writes (giving voice to his friend) "I don't have the right". In the sun he felt as one with the world-since we all share at least that (so he felt married or connected to society by this common denominator), but that makes him even more distraught, buried in his own self-loathing for being like the rest of the world, when they are typically so cruel and so unaware of their own inadequacies...Then I think that Kurt wished that he was not so bored with the world and its pettiness, so he wishes that he could be "easily amused"...but instead, he finds his bitterness ("nest of salt") will not allow him any amusement. On the contrary, since he is in such pain and self-loathing, why not take all the blame for everything- it's not gonna effect him anyway- (sunburn with freezerburn)- he is now loved by many in society to the point that the glare is too much(sunburn) after so many years of the world leaving him and his friends out in the cold(freezerburn). (Choking on the ashes of her enemy)- Since they are now on fire(metaphorically), the world is now choking on their stunning succes- but who cares right? Throughout the song, his overall attitude is "hey assholes, what else do you have to throw at me, and what else could you possibly want?"- which I think sums up the whole tone of the song...Anyway- I realize this is just one interpretation...thanks for the aqua-seafoam thing- I was really struggling to make sense of that..."mostly90's"- I like your interpretation as well- I think that Kurt put many double meanings into his songs, like most great artists, so that we would ponder and debate them, and they would thus live on through their music and lyrics... "(end quotes). and ya gud job buddy.... esp dat sun-burn freezer-burn part was something which i was having trouble figuring out... and what u have described fits very well to his past also... living beneath a bridge... can surely give u freezer burn.... and ty one and all for continuing it till dis day of 30-may-2010... thanks amigos and amigas... --< peace |
