I know it was written specifically for the movies, but that is such a beautiful interpretation. I'm probably just going to only hear it from that perspective from now on, now that you've said that. |

I agree with everyone who said this is about someone who has passed away. Everything about this song reminds me of friends I have lost. It's a song written by someone who is clearly feeling the pain of loss, but you can tell they're not upset with the person who has left them. Instead they are happy for this person because they know she is in a better place, although still a little sad because that place is not with them.. "yeah, you're painting daffodils, growing by the sea, without me"
"Last night I dreamt you were with me, finally I could breathe" really hits a chord. When someone you love passes away, seeing them in your dreams is one of the most comforting and relieving feelings in the world. It feels as though that person is sending you a message that they are all right. |

Reminds me a lot of graduating from high school.
You spend 13 years with one group of people, you're going to have ups and downs, and you're going to witness other people's. It doesn't matter if you're close with everyone; you've been through it all together. You may not like everyone, and there may have been people that you've had major differences with. At the end though, all the little things that happened over the years really don't seem to matter that much. You get to the end, look back, and see how far you've come together. Then you can look to the future, and see that there's still a long way to go. Maybe you won't be surrounded by these people anymore, but you've come this far and that's all that's really important at the moment. |

Makes me think of the girls who get a boyfriend and basically disappear from existence. It happens a lot in high school; they spend all their time with this one guy, completely stop hanging out with their friends, and essentially build up this "fairytale" relationship to the point where they're totally detached from anything outside their relationship. Then it ends, the castle walls crumble, and they find themselves with nothing left.
It's saying that no matter how good a relationship may feel at the time, you shouldn't forget that the world's still out there, and you need to take part. "keep your feet on the ground, when your head's in the clouds" |

Obviously it's a political commentary.
I think it goes deeper than that though. It's so much more personal than just simple facts and generic anger against our "corrupt government." It speaks of the struggles of a country's citizens, caught up in the destruction of a battle that they didn't choose for themselves. This song isn't a protest, but a plea for our leaders to see that we, the people, make sacrifices that may not be worth it in the end- that maybe we should take a step back and help ourselves before we go tell others how to run their governments.

"I remember how we danced out loud"
Beautiful. I feel like this song is about someone who was in love; who IS in love. And the problem isn't that the person that they're in love with didn't return their feelings, but more likely they're in denial. This person is afraid to show love in return, for whatever reason. Maybe they've been hurt before, maybe they had parents who split up and now they're terrified of that happening to them, or maybe they're simply cynical and don't believe in love- even when it's staring them straight in the face.
The one who does acknowledge what they have knows that they can't force anything though, and so the song is kind of like a quiet persuasion for this other person to just let go of what they know and fall into what they feel. |

I definitely agree that it's about an ex, but I don't necessarily think he hates anything about her. It's more like he's trying really hard to convince himself that he hates her to make losing her hurt less. "I guess I'll be honest, I could use you around" is him basically just admitting that no matter how hard he tries to deny it, he just really misses her. "And my friends all say he's just the broke-dick version of me. They're just trying to help me get some sleep, I know he's what you need." Her new boyfriend just plain pisses him off, but above anything else he just wants to want what's best for her, and if the best thing for her is this new guy, then he's willing to put aside what he wants in order for her to be happy. Or at least he wants her to believe he is.
