Five for Fighting – Superman (It's Not Easy) Lyrics 15 years ago
I also think this song IS from Superman's point of view, perhaps in a "Smallville/Clark Kent" way... a very young Superman, not the confident Man of Steel he would turn out to be.

The key lines that support this for me are:

"Wish that I could cry
Fall upon my knees
Find a way to lie
About a home I'll never see"

Of course, the reason he'll "never see" his "home" is because his birth home, the planet Krypton exploded. His father, the scientist Jor-El knew Krypton was going to explode, so he built the rocket that took his infant son Kal-El to Earth, where he was found by the Kents.

Kryptonite is radioactive fragments created by the explosion of Superman's home world of Krypton. The green variety of Kryptonite is lethal to all Kryptonians and has no effect on Earthlings.

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young – Frozen Smiles Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this may have been included in the CSNY box set, but this song is actually one that was recorded by Graham Nash and David Crosby on their first LP that they recorded together as a duo. Graham Nash wrote this one and to me it's about someone who is frustrated with a friend whom he discovers wasn't such a good friend after all. In the last verse he's trying to be nice about it but it's difficult as evidenced by the lines: "just have faith in who you are and all the goodness that I'm forced to disregard, because you make it much too hard". It's my favorite Nash/Crosby song.

ABBA – Happy Hawaii Lyrics 15 years ago
There IS a reason why the two songs sound similar.......... they are basically the same song with different lyrics and some minor changes. Actually, "Happy Hawaii" is an earlier version of "Why Did It Have To Be Me". The impression I got is that at the time they weren't satisfied with what they had so they rewrote it and it was released first as "Why Did It Have To Be Me". Later on, "Happy Hawaii" was relased as the B-side to one of their singles.

Tim McGraw – Can't Be Really Gone Lyrics 15 years ago
My interpretation has always been that the woman dumped him because of something that he did. The key line that convinces me of this is "I've seen the error of my ways". Of course he sees this too late. Sure, all those things are there, but the odds of her coming back sound pretty slim to me.

The problem, in my opinion, is the video for this song, which treats the lyrics as if she died. I suspect that is why so many people think the died instead of left.

Matchbox Twenty – All I Need Lyrics 15 years ago
Despite the brightness of the musical arrangement of this recording, to me the song is totally and competely sarcastic and pessimistic in nature. This suggest the song's narrator has had a string of disappointing relationships, therefore that's "all he needs right now". This happens to be one of my all time favorite MB20 songs, both musically and lyrically.
