Black Sabbath had a scary tune but lousy lyrics. Hells Bells showed taht Brian had talent for songwriting too. But the talent waned with every forthcoming release after Back in Black. BTW, ozzy wrote lyrics for the song Black Sabbath. Great frontman, great charisma but not too bright. Geezer was the brains behind Sabbath and after Ozzy's departure passed on writing duties to Dio. |

Underrated?? This song kickstarts one the greatest selling albums in the world. Yes it is among their greatest songs. Jebus nailed it with that comment. Its probably the devil claiming a fallen soul. The Hell's Bell sounds more like a funeral bell and Brian is singing about winning a soul for Satan. Bon Scott's soul? I hope not. And Brain doesn't sound an idiot whoever you are, you sonofawhore. |

Marilyn Manson is a phony. HTH is the badman's anthem about his real destination.. and he is not afraid of it. He would embrace hell bravely(helped, of course, by several shots of whisky) rather than take the teetotaller route to heaven. A drunk's voice is slurred and the words that Bon sang on HTH was maybe different from what was written down officially on paper. Hear carefully. It is "hey satan, he may choose the way to run a rockin band". But hey, I may be wrong. The liquid-gold in my bottle is fast dissappearing as i put this down. A drunk says things badly and he probably hears things badly too!! |

"I got myself a one way ticket, going the wrong way" - Ride On
"Season ticket on a one way ride" - Highway To Hell
Both songs are studies in contrast. In Ride On Bon expresses regret and thinks he is headed the 'wrong way' and in Highway... you have Bon celebrating a reckless ride down south of whatever is good ('the wrong way'). Both songs are good for driving after you've a few drinks too many. Ride On was like an al coholic's "moment of clarity" . Driving to Highway...... always kept you on the edge, not knowing if it's going to be your last ride. Especially after you've done something wicked.

This is AC/DC darkest song undoubtedly. AC/DC before this were tagged by the press and the feminists as macho clowns not to be taken seriously. The 'Night Stalkers' antics after drawing inspiration from this song made people sit up and say "these fuckers are dangerous". Bon Scott gave it a menace unmatched by the band in later records. Brian may have had the voice but Bon gave AC/DC its "SOUL". |
