i think this song is about dying from cancer, but more specifically lung cancer.
when he says "stone me like a martyr" it implies dying for something one believes in. maybe jesse is trying to imply that the person dying was a smoker and that he is now dying from how he chose to live his life. also, "envious, a simple touch" means to me that the person dying is envious of those who are healthy and perhaps regrets his addiction of smoking. "all of this longing" means that he is longing to be healthy. "hollowed out longings of chimera" is cryptic but i'll try to decipher it. chimera is a goat/devil-like beast. perhaps jesse is referring to satan and the afterlife of malice that awaits this cancer-stricken being. maybe "hollowed out longings of chimera" refers to the person's attitude towards life and death before cancer. when he was healthy he didnt ever think about death or dying and lived life to the fullest, or perhaps excess. the lyricism is very cryptic, but that's what it means to me. |

"forced myself to sleep last night" also could just mean last night i killed myself. waking up to all white, of course, is afterlife. i get what youre saying though. accidental exit does throw me off a bit so it could be a drug overdose. but "all white" is definitely connected to this song. this song is about death, and "all white" is about people's reaction to it. i love jesse's intricate and cryptic lyricism. |

i think this song is about making it big. he's (jesse) been waiting so long for it and he and his band have finally been signed to a major label, yet he's terrified because he doesnt know what to expect or how he'll do. at the same time, he's prey to the record companies because he has to do what they want or else they'll drop him and his band. also, he's twisted in knots from hard work and strain from writing songs, recording, rehearsing, touring, etc. another clue is when jesse says "califormula". California is pretty much the epicenter of the music industry and that really sealed the meaning of the song for me. |

i think the "turn this into gold so i can count it" part means that bosses at work don't care about the work you do unless it makes them a profit. all they want is money. also, the "treat you more as a leper" part means that your boss will treat you like shit unless you make him a profit. thats what it means to me anyway. |
