I disagree with this interpretation. I dont think it has anything to do with a relationship. I think its about going back to his hometown. "Back down, down to the downtown". "Boards, nails" "Contrasting the snow" sets the image that this is probably a typical old school American town. "Peek in"..."I cup the window", seems to me he is looking into his childhood home and its abandonded. "The agony", i think, is the sentimental sadness some people feel when they look back on happier times or when they were young. At least this is how the song comes off to me, maybe because i relate to that interpretation. |
