This is a really special one. I think the mark of a truly incredible song, or any piece of art, is expressing a truth that many have felt but few can find the words / pictures / sound for. ------------ I'm so tired but I can't sleep Standin' on the edge of something much too deep It's funny how we feel so much but we cannot say a word We are screaming inside, but we can't be heard ------------ This part is so real to me, just last night I lay in my bed for hours, EXHAUSTED but unable to sleep... silent, but full of things that needed to be said. ------------ I'm so afraid to love you, but more afraid to loose Clinging to a past that doesn't let me choose ------------ This part is hard for me to put into words, but I think it is talking about how based on your past you are bound to certain memories and patterns. Like you are afraid to love, but afraid to lose at the same time, and your past says that its not possible to get one with out the other. ------------ Once there was a darkness, deep and endless night You gave me everything you had, oh you gave me light ------------ I think this part is talking about depression, and a good friend that saved the person from disappearing into it. Great song. |

I really think it's THAT you're okay too... or at least its more powerful that way. Like its a love so great that even though his heart is breaking, he can't really say anything because he's all choked up, glad that she's okay... her being safe is better than her in pain kind of. does that makes sense? |

This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. Here are some of my thoughts... __________________________ Just lay it all down Put your face into my neck and let it fall out I know, I know, I know I knew before you got home __________________________ Can you imagine coming home to someone who loves you, and they can tell... before you open your mouth exactly what is happening. I can hear a friend's voice comforting in the moment before tears, "I know, I know, I know..." __________________________ But I will learn to breathe this ugliness you see __________________________ This line, to me, means I will learn to breathe, to deal with both the self hatred of the hurting person and the darkness that this person sees... it's about saying that the friend will accept and come to this level. __________________________ You were blessed by A different kind of inner view It's all magnified The highs would make you fly But the lows make you want to die And I was once there Hanging from that very ledge where you are standing So I know, I know, I know It's easier to let go __________________________ This part is so so true in every single way. People who get depressed are often much more sensitive to the world, they have beautiful souls and a deeper inner view of the world, a different view, and so they are "blessed" in some ways but cursed in others. I don't think it necessarily means that this person has bipolar disorder, just that there are times so full of life and others when there is an insane amount of darkness. And the friend knows that it would be so much easier just to give up. |
