I think this song talks about how nothing is ever as good as you remember the good things in your past. And also, not to worry so much about a relationship gone sour (or anything for that matter) because another chance for something good will come, in time. And, of course, don't listen to others' advice on matters that mean a lot to you. Think for yourself. |

I think yer right, about it being about a break up. But maybe not that he's not good enough for her. My interpretation is, He still wants to be friends with her, but "bide no longer in these times" could mean they aren't close as they used to be. He looks "to see the progress" that has happened since the breakup, and all that has changed between them. He didn't have what she wanted in the relationship, or vice versa, and that led to the breakup. "Retreival on the sidelines" means, the game (of their relationship) is over, and they're gathering their things. That belong to them before they started seeing each other, the dreaded "returning of property lent or given in caring." As for the title, I think he's saying "easy come, easy go", like a relationship like a shirt, is easily cast off, and poetically speaking, to put on a shirt is to "cast it on." Fire and is is how different they were together. She watches a simple child's movie, Home Alone, while he's watching a horror movie, Poltergeist. It could also mean, home alone is about strangers breaking in to a house, and maybe he sees himself as breaking in to her heart, while now, his world is a nightmare, a borror, like in poltwrgeist. |
