| Lady GaGa – Paparazzi Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I think it's about more than one topic; she talks about the love/hate relationship she has with the media, but it's also as if she herself is the paparazzo and is practically stalking the one she "loves". We are the crowd We're c-coming out Got my flash on, it's true Need that picture of you It's so magical We'd be so fantastico -> Here, she poses as a paparazzo and includes herself in the mass of cameras and journalists by using "we are". She is so obsessed with that guy that she just NEEDS to take the perfect picture and degrades herself to their level, not caring if she is intruding. Leather and jeans Garage glamorous Not sure what it means But this photo of us It don't have a price Ready for those flashing lights Because you know that baby, I . . . -> Here, she's the superstar who the paparazzi are so crazy about, and she's willing to let them do their jobs saying that "she's ready for those flashing lights". Maybe by saying "it don't have a price", she means that the picture she took is worth more than money can pay? And she's "not sure what it means", the "garage glamorous". Perhaps it's smth other people have forced her to wear (she IS a superstar after all) and she just goes with it, because you have to please the paparazzi if you want to keep your status. Although, knowing Lady GaGa's style, I'm not too sure about that part about her clothes... I'm your biggest fan I'll follow you until you love me Papa, paparazzi Baby there's no other superstar You know that I'll be Your papa, paparazzi Promise I'll be kind But I won't stop until that boy is mine Baby you'll be famous Chase you down until you love me Papa, paparazzi -> Either the guy she's in love with is meant by "baby there's no other superstar", or she herself. Or it could mean both. So she loves all the attention she gets from them, promising to be nice, so that they can write good stuff about her. But she also says she'll "chase down", which could be another change of POV or personification. I also think that the meaning of the chorus changes every time she sings it after a stanza. It's like a story she's telling, and every time you hear this, you incorporate what you know so far, thus changing its meaning as well. I'll be your girl Backstage at your show Velvet ropes and guitars Yeah, because you're my rock star In between the sets Eyeliner and cigarettes -> This time not in the spotlight... This part kinda reminds me of Avril Lavigne's Sk8er Boi, with the being backstage and all. But the meaning's completely different. Anyway, here she's already his girlfriend I think, because she's backstage and you don't get there very easily, unless the artist lets you enter or you're a journalist. So actually, it could also be interpreted as another stalkerish move. And she applies eyeliner every time, keeping up that well-made facade towards the paparazzi, IF they were there to suddenly take a picture of her. Shadow is burnt yellow Dance and we turn My lashes are dry Purple teardrops I cry It don't have a price Loving you is cherry pie Because you know that baby, I . . . -> The "shadows are burnt yellow" because of all the flashing of the cameras and her lashes are dry as well because of the constant light. They "dance and turn", but the turn indicates a break-up I think, since she's crying and her make-up is all smeary now. So by they, I mean the guy she was waiting for backstage in the last stanza. However, she can't let anyone see it, because the flash lights are always pointed at her. And she's not giving up that easily; she doesn't care what "price" there is, so long as she can love him. Like a yummy cherry pie. (I just love that line :D) Real good, we dance in the studio Snap, snap to that shit on the radio Don't stop for anyone We're plastic but we still have fun! -> So she feels "real good", because she's dancing with her ex again like she did in the other stanza. But it's in a studio, so they're being watched again by the press. They're like dolls, "plastic" and moved as the paparazzi wills it. But she doesn't care, she's got her love back. Although I doubt it's a happy ending; I think it's more of a one time thing since they're in a studio. However, the last line says "we", so I don't know for sure. It could also be that she's so obsessed that she doesn't see what the guy himself wants of course. |
