Yes...conform to every 60s stereotype and assume every song is about drugs. The song isn't about drugs, weed, lsd or any of that. Like others have said, it's about growing from childhood to adulthood. I view things song as a "Defiance" of that philosophy. To me, the song says REMEMBER YOU ARE IN CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE / FATE. ""Until the end and back again, defiant to the last man, till there's nothing left to fight against" Continually questioning, prodding and tackling life is the only way to truly live it. Letting fate decide what and who you are (in the opinion of this song I believe) are outdated ways of thinking. ""Found strengths in actions That only courage achieves Never letting fate decide"" Gaining strength through standing by your convictions...not settling for what you've been handed, if it's not what you wanted. I find in some relationships, one person sometimes ends up "burning brighter" than the other. It's hard to be in a relationship where one person gets all the proverbial "sunlight" and the other ends up having to stand in their shadow. You can love someone completely, but still feel unfulfilled...and often that's just a question of taking time to reset, contemplate and move forward. Sadly, that sometimes means having to let go. That's more or less what I get out of this track. |
