Much like several of MGMT's songs, this about being yourself. This one says that IF you are naturally a bird fly If you are the moon, then orbit "Why'd you cut holes in the face of the moon base?" If you are a monster then bare your teeth. The next part is to accept people for who they are as well. What monsters don't realize is that "even a bird would want a taste of dirt from abyssal dark" I relate mostly to being a bird so it tells me that it might be fun to catch a monster. This song gives me the confidence to catch a monster because even a "prick of a feather can make a kingdom burn and the bloodshed start" The fact is a monster belongs on the burning pyre and if you can help the monster to there he will actually inspire you. |

The Almighty One, The Immeasurable One, The Invisible, The Infinate, and The Unquestionable are referring to God. That's why they are capitalized, like "He" when referring to God. Each of the verses describes one of the paradoxes of God. And to those thinking this song badmouths God: Seeing as they are actually a non-evangelical Christian band, it's highly unlikely they are calling God into question. The rest of the song describes many different types of people. Cats, peacocks, giraffes, perpetually plain, incurably inane, pious and profane, and several others are all different types of people that you will only see and recognize if you are not among the "incurably inane" The purpose of the phrase "a glass can only spill what it contains" is that each of these people can only show what they are, but since so many people today are simply dressing in their parents closed, they themselves do not realize what they are. So it is a call to attention for those people the "incurably inane" to shed their parents closed and look through the glass to see what they contain. |

I think the boy in the song is actually kind of pathetic. He is utterly obsessed with something that he can't have BECAUSE he is obsessed with it. He says that if he can't have her lips than she is an awkward stranger. To me this says that he won't get to know her unless he can have her. Which gives real men a bad name. The ambulance said "he was just another boy without a sharper knife." Meaning he tried to kill himself over "the awkward stranger." I suggest that whoever the character of the song is should just gets a doll to sleep with since he is just treating her like a Doll Face anyway. |

Anybody who looks at this song, and all they see is sex is being very short sided. The electricity in this song describes the feeling you get from acting natural, just being yourself. And what are the circuits? They're the hardware required to make the electricity. So if we were to all throw away petty differences and devote our lives to creating electricity, we could plug it in and change the world. The girl he runs into in the Amazon is his electric girl, because together they really crank the voltage.
