I don't think this has to do with an affair at all... this song says nothing about leaving the one they're with to be with another. I think this song is really for her parents and for anyone going through a struggle because society is putting a strain on their relationship... If you seen the music video you know that the situation was an interracial couple trying to be together, which parallels to her parents situation, and was probably an unthinkable decision considering the time period they would have gotten together. Back then and now it's still hard for some couples to be in an interracial relationship without someone interfering, and it takes a lot of love and effort to go through it and not care what anyone thinks... it would have to be that unbearable wanting for someone, that Alicia describes, that would make a person follow through. But this song, in general, is meant for any relationship issue... interracial, same sex, inter-religious, age difference, anything society might call out of the ordinary. All I know is that the song is beautiful, the video is beautiful, and it makes my heart melt every time!!! |

The video totally goes along with the song and I just realized what the video means and how it make the lyric understandable. In the video no one understands what the cross dressing thing was about. Well you can't look at the female as her own person. In the end of the video we see Cory cross dressing as the female; they're not two different people though. Have you ever imagined yourself as someone else, but the person doesn't look like you, well it's the same for cross dressers- they picture themselves as the way they want to be and how things should be aside of how things truly are. The cross dressing is just a sheer metaphor... In the video Cory lingers about the hotel room in reminiscent of something (his cross dressing habit, how he wants to see himself), but he knows he can't go back to that life style so he's in agony of remembrance, thus the breaking of the glass and psychological fits he had. He wants something he can't have and he dislikes that feeling and wants it to, either, go away or just let it be. The lyrics say the same thing He want's something so badly that he doesn't care what it does to him, but he knows that this thing isn't good for him... he just simply want this thing to disappear without any regards for him so that he won't have to remove it himself, for he's really isn't strong enough to do it himself. He's bitter because this thing is removing itself from him when he craves it... In the video cory remove his cross dressing niche but he craves to be that person. In the picture you simply see Cory as himself and next to him we see how he want things to be. Lyrics - he wants things to be one way, but they are polar opposite if his wants. |

To the person above: The owl in the video, I believe, represents Chi. The owl are said to be magical, and represent shamanism (something they say Chi practices), inner-knowing, psychic ability, and intuition; cultures believe bird to be messengers between earthly creatures and spirit. I think this reinforces the the album title Diamond Eyes because the best quality diamond is clear, non-glazed, unfrosted (I highly doubt they would compare Chi to a cheap diamond). One person above said that the song may not be about Chi, but seen through Chi's eyes (POV), which many have said is clear and wise. Chi represent the owl because he is spiritual and wise, with a clearer understanding of life than most. He's very intellectual, and is going through a huge transition in his life.
