| Walk the Moon – I Can Lift A Car Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
This is basically about impressing a girl. A lot of guys often like to try to impress girls by saying all the things they're able to do that other guys can't, this is just an exaggerated version of it, basically. I feel like the "hold it stead" and "I won't lose it" have double meaning in this song. In the beginning, it's basically him trying not to lose his girlfriend, trying to impress her. Then when she moves away to Chicago and they have to break up, he's alone and heartbroken, so he's trying to keep it together. "I won't lose it"/"Hold it steady" is him trying to hold back from breaking down in front of others and letting them see that he feels like shit over this. Then, he finally decides to start going out and seeing new girls and trying to stay fit. He falls for her because she reminds him of his ex. He tries to impress her by saying the same things he did to his ex. The cycle starts over again with "I won't lose it" and him trying not to lose this girl. It's a nice song, I think. And when you think about it, slightly depressing, haha. |

| Florence + the Machine – All This and Heaven Too Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Pretty sure it's "I can't seem to command it," not "I can't seem to commend it." She's talking about how it (love, or whatever) is a language itself, and you command a language, not commend it. So yeah, it's command, not commend. |

| The Cure – Close to Me Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| OR the other person is about to pick HIM up, and he put his head on the door right before opening it ^ (and the "to feel the fear before you're here" makes more sense if she's the one picking him up. | |

I think the "If only I was sure that my head on the door was a dream" could possibly be him not totally believing that what he was about to do was true. Perhaps he had waiting a long time to take this girl on a date (or sleep with her, whatever the case), that he decided to put his head on the door right before knocking on her door, to kind of take a moment to prepare himself for what would take place that night. At least, that's my interpretation of that line. Close to me, in general, I think is about going on a first date with someone you've been chasing/liking for a while, or sleeping with them for the first time. I also think it's about performance anxiety. "If only I had your faith"-if only he believed he'd do as well as the other person thinks he will. |

| Blondie – Detroit 442 Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Arguably Blondie's most Punk rock song, in my opinion. It's one of my favourites. It shows that they could really rock. And her voice is gritty here, which I love. "Dodging flying objects at the show" is basically what a lot of punk rock bands have had to do. It's not uncommon to see people throwing beer bottles or random crap at the band members, and I like that they included that line there. |

This song sort of reminds me of Blondie too, but I think it's probably because this song is very New Wave-y. Such a lovely song. |

| Tegan and Sara – Dark Come Soon Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
My interpretation of the song (even though this is not what it's about) is about depression. "dark, you cant' come soon enough for me" is almost like wanting death to come so that the depression can end. And the "Everyone I love, I need you now" is like a plea for help in dealing with the depression. But also the part, "Hold out for the ones you know will love you. Hide out from the ones you know will love you, too" is about holding out for the ones you know care about you and disassociating yourself from the ones who "love you too" rather than just "love you." Know what I mean? |

| Tegan and Sara – Soil, Soil Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I definitely think this song is about unrequited love, or unrequited feelings at the very least. "You've just written wondering and I reply fast All you need to save me Call and I'll be curled on the floor hiding out from it all And I won't take any other call" I think that part is someone either texting her or is instant messages. The person texts her casually, and she replies quickly, but what she really wants is the other person to call her. The "And I won't take any other call" is about being so enamored/addicted to someone that they feel they can't do anything else until they get their "Fix" of that other person. It's like saying, "I won't be able to function without a call from you, without some sort of semblance that you care." Then, there's this part: "I feel like a fool, so I'm going to stop troubling you. Buried in my yard, a letter to send to you. And if I forget, or, God forbid, die too soon, hope that you'll hear from me. Know that I wrote to you." After feeling like a fool/silly for being so addicted to this person, she decides to stop talking to them altogether because she feels like the other person doesn't have the same feelings for Tegan that Tegan has for this person. The last part is maybe something Tegan wrote but hasn't sent to this person describing her feelings for her. I think Tegan said in an interview that when she was crushing on some girl, they both had feelings for each other but never spoke about them, and the girl kept giving Tegan mixed signals, so maybe Tegan decided to write a letter or an email or something basically describing her feelings that wasn't sent to her crush yet. I really love this song. It's probably my second favourite after the title track. I very recently went through something like this too. We both knew that we had feelings for each other, but something always stopped us from taking the next step. And when I was ready to let the other person know of my feelings, I didn't feel like they still felt the same way about me, so I decided to stop "troubling" them, essentially. |

| Tegan and Sara – I Take All the Blame Lyrics | 15 years ago |

These are the correct lyrics: Grass to my knees give them hope and new joints bend and lean on me when you feel that strange dream fill my bath with cold night air through my lungs limping on two legs again don't you think that i've been giving up don't you think that i've been giving up change, i’ll take the blame i take the blame i’ll move away space in my life give me yards, room to grow pull my ears back with words heartbeats hurt you have my chest full of cold night air in my lungs limping on two legs again don't you think that i've been giving up don't you think that i've been giving up change, i’ll take the blame i take the pain i’ll move change, i’ll take the blame i take the pain i’ll move |
