best interpretation of the song. The song revolves around the analogy. What this song means to many of the posters here is what that story meant to him in this particular relationship. I feel that the word "loved" is his very reluctant way of saying to her that he is done. But inside, he still does and wishes she was what he thought she was - pure. I believe that when he wrote this song, he still had strong feelings for her and was still losing sleep over her, but was beginning to move on. |

I somewhat disagree with the idea that the second verse is a stab at society. The entire verse is referring to the strange dream itself. He says that "everything is exactly how it seems." Things aren't clouded with theories, arguments, and lies. There are "no concerns about the world getting warmer" because people are doing what they shoulcd: treating others as they want to be treated, obeying stop signs, mailing letters with address of the sender, and being contributive citizens. And as an ostensible reward, they continue to have warm weather through november. This world, albeit ignorant, is happy and stress-free. In my opinion, it's gibbard's interpretation of life if it was perfect in a 'strange' way. That's why he chooses to sleep in, free from the worries the world puts on us. As they say, ignorance is bliss. |
