Even an artist who writes her own music may imply more than one meaning to a piece of work.. in fact, art itself encompasses just a vast range of different perspectives, which at the end, come together into an amazing piece of work...it's ultimately up to the listener to interpret what it means to them. Ultimately, there IS NO ONE Meaning. That is why art / music is so so powerful. If a person finds themselves wanting to interpret each song through the "romantic" lense, then that is where that person is at, in his life. Your background and who you are as a person will strongly affect how you view things. That's the beauty of art :) Nothing is anything, only what YOU MAKE IT :D |

I think this song originates from the boy she apparently used to date (if she ever did - lol)..however she's taken it further and probably thought about the life of someone who makes coffins, which resulted in all these thoughts. I agree with what you've said...mostly. I feel overall..it's what you make it..for me.. it's quite a universal/spiritual song...and at same time literal...ultimately even though we may seem different in this external world..we're either rich/poor etc, we're ultimately all the same and end up in the same place once we have left this world. It's defiitely an interesting song I saw her 2 nights ago at the Hammersmith Apollo..she's actually mad, lol.. but was an excellent performance :) |
