"and i spent my last days burning my oldest of bridges
and i spent my last nights killing the best of friends."
everytime i read those lines, it makes me think of how i have more than one friend that i've probably lost forever, because i fucked up |

okay, two things about norma jean: josh scogin is one of the best lyricists around, and the band isn't going to be the same without him. man, i try to write stuff myself, but after reading lines like "the tragedy is the ignorance
behind the clean casket
on the outside they look so good
they are walking
to wall street in a straight jacket"
i'm just ready to give up. . .
definately a top 10 album for 2002 |

i was going to write a rant about the fact that fred is incapable of creating anything with insight or artistic vision. . .but it looks like 42 other people took care of that for me. good to see that there's still some degree of discernment in the world |

on the "christian bands" note:
don't just recommend the latest clone of whatever is popular in the mainstream market. Look to artists that are making concrete, original, and artistic music.
some suggestions: narcissus, mike knott, the violet burning, blindside, anah aeviah, zao, dickie ochoa, dennison marrs, spoken. . .they're out there, you just have to find them |

| Coalesce – what happens on the road always comes home Lyrics

isn't it funny to see somebody from a band as kick-your-ass tough as coalesce write a song about how he's giving up being in a band because he wants to be with his wife? aw, how sweet. no, really, i think this song rocks, and i respect sean for actually not trying to front as another tuffer-than-you hardcore pony boy. to all the people who think that songs have to be pissed off fight anthems, wave a finger high in the air to show you what we feel about that notion |

rock on ingram! "If you need to sign an "X" before and after every title before it's relevant, then I've wasted six years of my life on the simple notion that this was an open forum." That's one of the best "fuck you" lines to all the xTRENDYx hardcore kids that think everything has to conform to the scene in order to be legit. coalesce is one of the toughest bands i've ever heard, and they don't have to be hXc-typical to do it. |

| Blindside – Cute Boring Love Lyrics

good point, kid. . .but the song is also about morality, about how any more the concept of love for another person is nothing but "how can i get them to bed." In this culture, the original idea of love being caring so much for someone else that you'd give up your life for them is terrifying because it's atypical. Christian, the singer, is trying to make a point with the line "Is the one thing you want to make your trademark To feel lust without cute boring love"--he's hinting at the fact that there can be something deeper than just skin. I love the chorus in this song, because he's saying that he's sick of the charades and asking if anyone else is like him |

i think it's a pretty unique idea to use the term martyrs to describe abortion victims. also, the "comfort room" story is true. a friend of mine's mother worked with the woman who went public on this to the media. it's horrible, and so far i don't know that anything has been done about it |

you know what i love about dan's lyrics (and what i try to emulate when i write my own stuff" is that he arranges the words in such a way that they have a set meaning, but they're still open to other people's interpretations. |

i've used this song as kind of an inspiration when my life has pretty much sucked. not so much literally dying, but when he says "i'm at zero, i will not die at zero" that gives me motivation to get on with life. |

i'd never heard of this case before, but i'm interested in it. i'm kind of curious to see how dan learned about it, and why he decided to write a song for it. as far as the meaning goes, it's pretty self-explanitory after you read the case story on the website |

i don't know who dan meant in this song, but everytime i hear it, i think of a very close friend of mine. my freshman year of college, i went through some pretty harsh depression and was close to suicidal at one point. one night, as i was in my room waiting to take my life, she called me asking if i was ok, because she thought i looked like i wasn't doing so well. there's been other times as well where she has been there for me in ways like that; so the lines in this song quite literally mean something to me. but hey, that's just my 2 cents |

| Narcissus – Voida Lyrics

voida is a song about going through life knowing that something's missing. knowing that in a part of your soul, there is a missing link that needs to be filled. it's about all the stupid things we do as human beings to try to feel completion, running around in pointless circles with ourselves day after day after day. it's about that longing for something to make us feel whole again, about desperation when the drugs or the sex or the money just doesn't make us happy. and it's about the realization that God is that missing element that we need. we all need to be loved by somebody. the last part of the song puts me in tears just about everytime i hear it, because through the lyrics i'm just crying out to my saviour to hold me close and love me. i love this song. |
