Gogol Bordello – Dogs Were Barking Lyrics 15 years ago
so far i have
1
Dogs were barking, guests were parking
and my wedding was about to start
Dogs were barking, monkeys clapping
Then I got up on table and I said:
I'll meet you 10:45 on the Broadway Canal
in a disco-radical-transglobal...
will the equipment withstand? (vyderzhit li, vyderzhit li apparatura?)

2
comanja (a city in mexico) cooking up the original mixtura (i asume mixtura is mixture)
s ulitzy do ulitzy the brilliant bassura (dont know the words in this one)
our mom is Diaspora (nasha mama---Diaspora!!!)
our pa is in gogol bordello (Papa v Gogol Bordello!!!)
the energy of waking-up and me (Energija probuzdenija i ja!!!)
Dogs were barking, monkeys clapping
bears were dancing and girls were cutting loose
Cops were lurking, kids were snarkling
then her father came up to me and said:
have you ever been to a dog show? (Vi bivali kogda-nibud na vistavke sobak?)
she was a 5-45, our things are in a bad way (nashe delo tabak...)
i'm the good old opta-hotza-htzulo-dzgit (Da ja zhe starij dobrij Opta-Hotza-Htzulo-Dzigit!)
(no idea what opta-hotza htzulo-dzgit means)

the energy of waking-up and me (Energija probuzhdenija i ja!!!)
Remember things, things that are eternal...
remember things...you forgot those things
one cannot understand, one cannot change (Nelzja ponjat, nelzja izmerit,)
one can only throw and only up high (tolko prossat', i tolko vyt'!...)

4
To make it all even more crooked
is impossibility of suicide
You pull the trigger, yet you are still standing...
just somewhere else, but with same dick in your hand.

5
And dogs were barking, and the guests were parking
and the monkeys clapping and girls were cutting loose
thinking of things, things that are eternal,
when her mother came up to me and said.
Dogs were barking, cops were lurking
and my dancing was about to start!
Monkeys clapping...
...Party!

6

I met a crazy dancer,
a party tabashi (tabashi? seems to be a name but isn't used as a name here)
She held me by the hair, I held her by the ass
...nananana...
She was a crazy dresser...
...nananana...
She was a crazy dancer

will the equipment withstand (vyderzhit li vyderzhit apparatura!)
...nananana...

And the dogs were barking, and the guests were parking
and the monkeys clapping and girls were cutting loose
thinking bout things, things that are eternal,
when her mother came up to me and said.
Dogs were barking.

my views on it as a story:
1st stanza
we open on a wedding. he tells us to meet him some were else for an after party

2nd stanza
this one is a bit fuzzy. I feel that he describes our mother and our father to give us a sense of the tradition and energy involved in the ceremony.
The bride's father approaches and says have you ever been to a dog show. I imagine dog shows as boring old person activities compared to the energy and more primal might of barking dogs. This hits the subject as proof he is aging and moving to a part of his life he is afraid to enter.

3rd stanza
Hutz re-establishes the necessity of tradition begins talking about eternal things showing a plunge in to the subject's mind.

4th stanza
the subject is thinking more deeply, now on to the nature of suiside and potentialy reinarnation "You pull the trigger, yet you are still standing...just somewhere else, but with same dick in your hand."

5th stanza
the mother disrupts the subject from his thought for a dance (she said "...and my dancing was about to start")

6th stanza
i read this as the mother in law giving him permission to run away
he finds a crazy dancer and ends up with her

7th stanza
I read this as the subject wandering aimlessly and drunkenly in the city.

8th stanza
the mother finds the subject again while he is once again deep in thought.
resolution of the situation is left to the audience.
