This song is not biblical. It's basically a story about a captain going down with his ship against a storm in the middle of the ocean. Like the movie Perfect Storm. I know what lies beneath, I've seen the flash of teeth (Intense Waves)(the flash of teeth indicate a storm a comin') Conspiring with the reef to sink our ship (The Storm has a possibility to sink the ship)(From the warnings above) The wind's a cheating wife, her tongue a thirsty knife (A sailor is married to the sea. The wind is the rage of a cheating wife) And she could take your life with one good kiss (a kiss from a raging ocean storm is one thing. DESTRUCTION) Can you see the sky turn red? As morning's light breaks over me (RED SKY at night, Sailors Delight, Red sky in the morning, Sailors warning) Know tonight we'll make our bed (the captain is knows that the destruction of his ship is inevitable) At the bottom of the sea (and hes going DOWN! basically it's about losing his love interest because (what i think) he cheated. (He's far from reality and he's contemplating suicide because of his losses) How long how long will I slide (Slide from reality, lost in a "what if" state) Separate my side I don't (A lopsided conscience, his is favoring his bad side causing his "mourning" sense) I don't believe it's bad (he doesn't believe or understand that being in a state of mind where suicide and Post dramatic stress in bad) Slit my throat (contemplating suicide) It's all I ever (His suicidal thoughts and sad memories makes him feel that that's all he ever did in his life) I heard your voice through a photograph (seeing his ex in a pic and living that moment) I thought it up and brought up the past (In a state where thats all he see's and living it) Once you've gone you can never go back (coming back to reality and living in mourning state) I've got to take it on the otherside (seperate the two worlds, One side is in a memory and the other in reality. basically its about anthony in love with this girl mixed with his drug abuse. IMO theres two different veiws of this "love". The Girls view, which they each share an unconditonal love for eachother. Anthony's view is being in love but not being completely honest with her. Scar tissue that I wish you saw (When you get cut or puncture your self you'll start healing. When your completely healed you'll have a scar and that is what you call scar tissue. In this case scar tissue is from a needle, most possibly from a crack/heroin addiction.) Sarcastic mister know it all ("Sarcastic mister know it all", this could be a view on himself when he's socializing with other people. i think he's hiding his true self and trying to portray a perfect self to a certain someone.)
