I see two possible explanations for this one... One version is where this is a couple struggling with their relationship. The woman feels trapped in what used to be and isn't able to open up to the man. She knows that she's not always rational in what she says, but it's like something's holding her back. The man is reassuring her, letting her now that she's safe with him and that things will be alright in the end, even if it's unclear if he or she is right. There's a lot of small hints to that. "The screams all sound the same" - their fights are the same all the time. "I watched you disappear" - she saw him become a different person. Yet she doesn't want him to leave (please hang around). The other, more literal, version is essentially the same, only with the woman being plagued by mental issues. So the voice in her head is more literal and maybe the screams are more literal too. |

It took me a while to get even a remote idea of what this song was about, but in the end I think it's something like this: The guy in the song decided to do something for some reason, but it led to a break up with his girl friend and also less contact with his family. This could be anything. It could be the army, but also for example working for a company that's doing illegal stuff, or trying to become a musician instead of going to college. However, now his dream is becoming real he's not sure if he's happy with it. He's doubting a lot and he doesn't know why he's doing what he's doing. The reference to the martyr is the fact he doesn't have close connections (also the reference about liking to have a friend) and she's just there for the sex (so she'll get hurt), but at least it provides him with some distraction. But mostly, it's regret for his lost relationship. He would like to fix things, but he knows it's not possible (keeping the distance, seeing the ghost). Only thing I'm not sure about is the sister & nephew story. Something I could imagine is his sister also picked her choices and they weren't always smart ones and she hurt a lot, but in the end her choices proved to be right in some way, because she ended up having a son. |

| Counting Crows – She Don't Want Nobody Near Lyrics | 14 years ago |

I think it's about a woman who lost faith in men, maybe scared of commitment... She don't want nobody near But you can't get away from that They appear and disappear And they all get a string attached ^^ this supports it quite a lot. She's afraid men will get to attached, but also that she'll be the one to get too attached. That 's clear from the next part: Pretty soon they've got you hanging on the line Pretty soon they're singing one by one, the same old rhyme They say, "I'm alright, I just can't get home tonight" That's like when the guy calls her that he won't come home tonight, while she's waiting... And she doesn't want to feel this vulnerability, the dependency. I guess this means she'd rather have someone in her life, but not to get too close (nobody home), because she wants to protect herself. In the end, I think it's a struggle about wanting somebody to be together with, but at the same time not wanting the hurt of feeling deceived and cheated on. |

I have similar thoughts about this as most of you, yet not quite. I think it is about sexual abuse. This abuse occurs frequently and it begins at the age of 5 and it stops at the age of 9. Because at age 12 it's "3 years to the day" (the day it happenned for the last time). And at age 9: "it's over, he needs closure". I don't think his father was the one abusing him. He says: "Look what you did to me when you were taking me home." That wouldn't be the case if it was his father (he would already be home, wouldn't he?). Maybe his babysitter? That would explain why it has stopped at the age of 9. It could also be a total stranger. I'm not sure whether he didn't tell his mother (because of his inner voice) or she knew and didn't do anything about it. Could be either. I think the key in this lyric is his confusion, that starts at age 12. I think that even although his sexual abuse has ended, he feels sexual attraction to men, which is what confuses him. Even though his sexual contact with men has stopped, he desires it. As for the woman at age 16... it's not about his first time in general, it's about his first time with a woman. And he doesn't like it, it doesn't feel right. So I guess that's where he discovers he's homosexual. Then there's age 17. I think he's in denial about his homosexuality. Maybe he feels guilty or he is disgusted because it reminds him of his abuse. At age 18, things go totally wrong. He's so wrapped up in his past, this affects his behaviour. But instead of checking out the cause of his behaviour, he gets expelled. And at age 19... I'm not sure. It could be two things... Most likely, he's going to repeat the cycle. In that case, the way he's "innocently parked right beside a school" could indicate how the guy who molestered him did it, which supports my theory that it was a stranger. On the other hand, if it's for example a high school and the boy sitting there is older, I think he might finally find a connection with somebody else and wanting to end his confusion he goes to this guy to maybe ask him out or at least talk about it. The fact that they stare at eachother could indicate some kind of connection between them. I'd like to think it's the second option... but unfortunately the first one occurs much more often, no matter which one was meant in this song... |

| I can totally relate to this song, in a very different way though.. All my life I've had the feeling I wasn't able to be on my own, jumping from one relationship into an other... And now I'm going through a divorce and it's frightning to finally walk on my own, something I've been scared of for a very long time... | |

Wow, I actually just now discovered (heard this song bout 200 times) the first lines are probably the key: "I know that we are young and you love me, but I can't be with you like this". So that means she wants to marry, I suppose. Because she knows that they are young and he loves her, but to her it's not enough. She can't be with him "like this" (so she can be with him in a different way). |

This song has been spinning in my head all day and I think I finally got it´s meaning. I don´t think Gaga sings about the downside of fame, I think she sings about the status of women. And not only in a relationship: Silicon, saline, poison inject me - this is not about suicide or whatever! This are all things women do to themselves in order to appear beautiful, young, stunning. Silicon speaks for itself. Im not sure about saline but I read online it's being used to clean new piercings, so that might have to do with it. Poison - I'm pretty sure that's Botox. She looks good - But her boyfriend says she’s a mess She’s a mess She’s a mess Now the girl is stressed - So girls look good the way they are, they don't need all the shit used to make them look "beautiful", but they doubt their own bodies because of men (or boyfriend may symbolize the opinion of others alltogether). Run run Her kiss is a vampire grin The moon lights her way while she’s howlin’ at him She looks good But her boyfriend says she’s a tramp She’s a tramp She’s a vamp Now first of all, I don't think it's "howling at him", I think its "howling at it" (the moon). So first she's a vampire, then she's a werewolf. She's not herself anymore. She tried to look good for him but this time she's called a tramp, allthough first she was a mess (so she just can't get it right and is always getting criticism). Now about the second part.. all the women she named were famous, but I don't really think that's the point. More important, all the women were skilled, famous, beautiful, but all of them also always got criticised. So the "tell em how you feel" is all about what this kind of criticism does to the girls. "Work your blonde (Jean) Benet Ramsey" means women play their part as "lust objects". Which they're not supposed to do, because they should find "their jesus, their kubrick", find something else to live for rather than this so called beauty. And then there's "Diana, you're still in our hearts". This could (and probably is) a reference to princess Diana, but honestly my first thought was about the Roman goddess Diana, patron of the independent women, which would also suit this song pretty well. As for the dancing in the dark, I think that's a metaphor as well, for being "free" of all the judgement and be ourselves. |

| Yup... this is a lot like the stuff I've come up with. Ik agree, it does actually make sense... | |
| Lady GaGa – Alejandro Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I like it, it's kinda a hard to decipher.. I tend to agree with daldisco. There are plenty of men seeking her love, but she doesn't want that, she just wants plain sex and a cigarette after. And now she's got a boyfriend who is actually stable and safe ("like her dad") for whom she wants to abandon all her lovers (Alejandro, Fernando, Roberto and perhaps more?). She loves him and that's why she chooses him. She's got nothing to lose since all the others don't mean a thing to her? Her boyfriend is the one to cool her passion, to make her choose to be monogamous? | |
