The Gaslight Anthem – Film Noir Lyrics 15 years ago
The girl's name, Matilda, is probably a reference to "Waltzing Matilda," an old Australian song about a homeless man. The reference ties into the image of him being alone and out on his own with nowhere to go back to.

Green Day – I Fought the Law (The Crickets cover) Lyrics 15 years ago
DJgif hit the nail on the head. It's really funny that each and every one of you here takes the time to go down the checklist.

1) State your age, usually 13 or 14.
2) State whether or not you shop or have shopped at Hot Topic.
3) Confirm/deny your status as a "poser" (which, by the way, is a word used almost exclusively by the 12-15 crowd in an attempt to be "cool").
4) Bash Green Day.
5) Declare your allegiance to either The Clash, Dead Kennedys, or the Sex Pistols.

If you had an ounce of maturity, you would at least be able to acknowledge that Green Day has been very influential and deserves some credit for that. They're popular for a reason, folks, and that reason isn't the 13-year-olds that you guys all apparently blame. The 13-year-olds are too busy complaining about Green Day sucking on the internet.

That makes a lot of sense, actually. I didn't pick up on the allusion myself.

Also, does anyone know what's with the beginning of the gunfight mix?

As I Lay Dying – The Only Constant Is Change Lyrics 15 years ago
The message of this song is simple: There is only growth or decay. If we grow content in our standing with God, we will not keep that standing. We must constantly strive for more, lest we drift away from Him.

As I Lay Dying – Condemned Lyrics 15 years ago
I agree with Jacob. The first thing I thought about was definitely abortion. Really it could be any sort of neglect or upholding of a belief over someone's life, but abortion is what comes to mind first.

As I Lay Dying – The Plague Lyrics 15 years ago
I may be completely wrong, but I think the song is about corruption in religion. Tim's saying that we've lost sight of what God really wants in favor of the agendas of religious leaders ("Another blind guide replacing divine eyes.") He encourages Christians to look beyond what is taught to them every Sunday and instead think for themselves and think about what God actually wants, not what our religious leaders or what we personally want and try to pass off as God's will.
("I still believe that there is hope for us, but I believe we must look outside
the sanctuaries of oppression that have brought our world so much pain....")

Granted, there are a few lines that I can't figure out in the song, such as "Reach out your hand, only to be plagued by disease," which is repeated enough that I have a feeling looking over it may have changed the entire meaning of the song.
