I may be totally off, but could this have something to do with sex? Like a girl who wants to be loved, so she sells her body in a way. The line that made me think that was "faster than you were going to allow turn out the lights or say get out" maybe i'm completely wrong.... |

I think this song is about someone realizing that his lifestyle is dragging him down - i'm not sure if it is referring to his job, town, friends or whatever. Instead of just laughing along like he usually does, he should move on and start again. He's tried to fix things, but just can't do it so it'd be better if he just leaves them to "trample themselves" |

He's done so much, he doesn't even feel bad anymore, he's just going through the motions "running in circles a mouse on the table I try to feel, I just don't" He's "hurting and dead inside" so he doesn't care what happens |

| maybe she feels like if she actually thinks about what she is doing- staying with a man for the money even though she doesn't love him- it will blow up on her- like a firecracker | |

It seems like most of the songs on this cd are about the seemingly pointless nature of life. About people being trapped in their choices or trying to find fulfillment in all sorts of meaningless things. I guess this one is about someone contemplating how "life is tasteless." Seems like they have become trapped in the daily grind of work and can't see what more there is to life. |

I agree with birsweet91 I think It's about either a married couple or just some friends or something who are looking back on their lives and realizing that they have fallen into the same old "typical life" that they vowed to never "resign" to They had a plan to be different, but then couldn't get past all of their fears and the obstacles in front of them. They let the years go by without acting on their original plans, but now they realize that "the longer we wait around the faster the years go by" and if they continue to do nothing they will die without realizing any of their dreams. "It's not too late to feel a little more alive" If they can get past their fear they can "make an escape" from their mundane life. But he acknowledges at the end that it is scary to take the first steps since he does not know what will happen now any more than he did all those years before. |
