Needtobreathe – Don't Wait For Daylight Lyrics 14 years ago
This is an interview I stumbled upon :)

HJ: Help me out with the story behind “Don’t Wait For Daylight.” I’ve heard lots of people’s explanation for what it’s about, anything Peter’s denial of Jesus to the bad breakup, and it doesn’t really make sense. Help me out!
Rinehart: It’s a strange song; it’s funny because we get that a lot. The lyric we started with was from a Johnny Cash song called “Long Black Veil.” The ideas in the two songs are a little different. In this song, the scenario is about a breakup, between a married man and a woman who sings from her perspective. She leaves an affair between her and his coat. She finds a note in his coat, it’s his note that’s basically a suicide note, and she’s struggling with, does she tell people and try to save him and incriminate herself? The chorus tries to encourage people to do the right thing and tell the truth. We felt like it was a good parallel for us because we were doing this Christian/secular release, we felt it was important to say that right away. When you look back I think the lyrics will make sense.
