Elvis Costello – God's Comic Lyrics 15 years ago
This song needs more love -- one of my all-time favorites. The images of grotesque entertainer, the disappointed and apathetic deity, and Santa Claus, who might actually all be the same person, are wonderful and unsettling.

It also contains the second-best musical slam against Andrew Lloyd Webber -- the first can be found in Roger Waters' "It's a Miracle" ("then the piano lid comes down / and breaks his f*****g fingers / it's a miracle").

Gin Blossoms – Hey Jealousy Lyrics 15 years ago
Haha -- yes, there are indeed small towns like this, and I know because I grew up in one! Small town cops have nothing to do except coax raccoons out of attics, mediate domestic disputes, issue speeding tickets, arrest the occasional belligerent drunk outside the local bar, and harass teenagers. My friends and I would always get followed around in a cruiser by this one cop in particular as we hung out and drifted from the school to the convenience store to wherever on Friday evenings after school. I really identified with this line in the song!
