Im almost positive this is about being a recovering adict / alcoholic. mostly because A) this is one of the first songs he wrote after getting sober. B) when you work the steps they tell you that you can do it alone you need to surrender stop fighting this battle and ask for help because self reliance got us no where. This song is written from such a spot of vulnerability and humility it screams first step. |

really gorgeous song with willie dixon-esque riffs, jack loving willie dixon, most of his guitar influence is said to be blind willie mctell( your southern can is mine is a cover of) but blues none the less... seventh son is probably a dylan reference and him actually being the seventh son maybe bringing in the story from folk lore of "seventh son of the seventh son" supposed to ave mystical powers |
