I've always thought of this song to be about a break up. "We" seems like a reference to the speaker and his/her girlfriend/boyfriend. Similarly, "One might fall and the other will stand" might be dealing with how each one carries on after the break up. I don't know, it kinda seems like the speaker is trying to understand what has happened in the aftermath of a break up, I think. "And I'll stand in the silence/ Until I figure it out," makes it seem as if he's trying to fit the pieces together. But he'll never be able to, "I'm never gonna know/Never gonna look back/ Never gonna know where we would've ended up at." He realizes that, stops worrying about it and looking back. He has to move on. But time seems stuck, because he'll give anything for the comfort of the night, and later the light of day. At the end of the song, the speaker realizes that it's crisis that defines us. Who he is who he chooses to be, how he chooses to act when the world makes no sense. |
