Lady GaGa – You and I Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Now someone should revise for the album version. "Something about the chase..." etc. Either way. Worthy heir to Speechless. |
Lady GaGa – Marry the Night Lyrics | 13 years ago |
:D Perfect album opener. Just jumps right in with her voice, building up into that chorus that SLAMS into you. But why before Born This Way? I feel that this has some vulnerability, building right into the absolute confidence of BTW. It works. Will probably be a single. I wish the verses were a little better. But it's an awesome chorus and the NI-I-I-IGHT conclusion rocks :P |
Lady GaGa – Hair Lyrics | 13 years ago |
SO good. Third favorite, only after the amazing weird European stuff (Government Hooker and Schei?e). Much better anthem than BTW, although that's grown on me for it's sheer insanity. But this song came out on a bad hair day for me...:P |
Lady GaGa – Hair Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I'm hearing "Sometimes I want some rock 'n' roll red highlights"? Time will tell. Or the lyric booklet. |
Lady GaGa – Highway Unicorn (Road to Love) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I don't dislike this song...but all the other ones BLOW ME AWAY. This doesn't. I'll give it some time, though. I mean, it's called HIGHWAY fucking UNICORN! I gotta love it! xD |
Lady GaGa – Scheiße Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Women's empowerment? From a song with random German-in-French-accent parts called "Shit"? I LOVE LADY GAGA xD Second favorite song on the album, close to Government Hooker. |
Lady GaGa – Bloody Mary Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Teeth reference! :D I love this one, one of about three surprisingly downtempo songs on BTW - also, one of a couple kinda religious ones. But it's Gaga, so she's singing from Mary Magdalene's POV. Which is a pretty fucking cool direction to go. |
Lady GaGa – Black Jesus + Amen Fashion Lyrics | 13 years ago |
YES. Gaga rules choruses always. It's her perception of life and fashion changing as she got more exposure to the world. A simple icon like Jesus could be bended and molded (like Gaga does often - Judas, Bloody Mary), and become Black Jesus. |
Lady GaGa – Bad Kids Lyrics | 13 years ago |
As for all of Born This Way, I love that there's some cuteness harkening back to The Fame like this and Fashion of His Love, and some darkness like The Fame Monster...but then the message is different, even the sound is so advanced. Basically, BTW fucking rocks. Anyway. Gaga was made for a rebel anthem. |
Lady GaGa – Americano Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Now I've heard the album version...mariachi house indeed! xD Not as revolutionary, somewhere between serious and joking now. But effective sound for the concept. |
Lady GaGa – Government Hooker Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Favorite Born This Way track! Good God, it's SO good. It runs a little deeper than the JFK thing, but she's utilizes that well. She said it's about being a media puppet. Of course, the hooker imagery is more present, but I guess the Dutch voice in their tells her to do this and that and she's all, "As long as I'm your hooker." As long as she's famous. I don't quite understand this, but hey - Gaga said it. Lots of Gaga's bridges have given me chills in the past - Poker Face, Bad Romance, Dance in the Dark, Judas. That's where she truly shines. This JFK bridge, though - DAMN. SO GOOD. |
Lady GaGa – Americano Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Possibly one of the songs she said she was inspired to write after all the gay marriage hubbub. All the parts are there - "I don't speak your Americano" being I don't agree with America, the popular vote, etc. Maybe? "I won't speak your Jesus Cristo" - bigots' interpretation of the Bible as against gays? Refusing to bow to either consensus - political or religious. "We can marry on the west coast" - this inspiration came after prop 8 was overturned here in California. "I have fought for how I love you" - Very powerful line, really, and evokes that struggle for equality. "Edge of the law" - Something to do with the legality now? Like, your love is made out to be illegal. As for the Spanish parts...I need help :P She said it's to be a mariachi house number...can't wait to hear whatever the hell THAT is xD This sounds like a revolution. Cannot WAIT for Born This Way, I pre-ordered the deluxe today. |
Cat Power – Colors and the Kids Lyrics | 13 years ago |
"When we were teenagers, we wanted to be the sky." Perfect. This is astounding. It's strange, like I'd want this at my wedding or my funeral...it's sad, but something about it is really sweet and beautiful...I can hardly think of a better song than this. I went into Moon Pix convinced that Cross Bones Style would be my favorite, but Jeeeeesus I'm glad I found this song. It keeps me alive. |
Lady GaGa – Judas Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Do people really think Lady Gaga is a conspiracy?! What the fuck? She is just a pop singer, folks. These comments display both how crazy the fans and the haters can get (although, Jesus, I've seen some really insane stuff on the opposing side elsewhere). She is not saying "I really, specifically love the man that betrayed Jesus, yay Satan." It's just a metaphor about the wrong guy, why is that so fucking dangerous and sacreligious to write? SOME PEOPLE ARE SO NUTS. The song itself! First listen, I was totally wigging out, pissed off, WTF am I hearing. By maybe the fifth listen, I was in love. Some of this is ridiculous, let's be honest (ear condom? that electro/Ke$ha "ew"?) but I find it hilarious. I predict Gaga's not taking herself as seriously as she did throughout The Fame Monster. Awesome album an aesthetic, but she was heavily criticized for her pretentions. Some of her crazy decisions in this and, yes, that beautiful mess Born This Way (not to mention her being half a motorcycle on the cover art) indicate that the freedom Gaga preached about leading up to the release isn't so much the uplifting kind. I feel that she's free to do whatever the fuck she wants, laugh at herself, and I am LOVING it. But what the HELL is that accent? xD Oh, Gaga, you slay me. |

Placebo – Feel Good Hit Of The Summer Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Fitting song for them to cover, either way. Ha :D |
Placebo – Peeping Tom Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I'll start by saying this is an amazing song. That said, there seems to be something deeper than just loving this person he's peeping on...Rather than this person lifting him up, in which case he would say "you're the one who makes me feel much taller than I AM" - i.e., you're a lowlife otherwise. No, it's than YOU ARE, which sounds a little dominating to me. Maybe rapey. Even with that undertone, this one makes me sad and sympathetic. |
Placebo – Days Before You Came Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I'd like to address this song directly to Placebo - Days before you came = freezing cold and empty :) |
Placebo – Scared Of Girls Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Was just thinking... I like that it's, "I'm a man, a liar." Like those things are parallel. Can't have one without the other. Goes with the whole conquest for insecurity theme, I guess? Still. Best song ever. |
Placebo – Ask For Answers Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Beautiful fucking song. I'd call Scared of Girls my favorite Placebo, but this is definitely a close second. It's one of their most emotional songs. I think it can apply perfectly to anyone who will let it, but I swear this song was written for me. It's every insecurity I've ever felt, and yet it calms me when I listen to it. I can say with a straight face that this song saved my life. |
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Mr. Your on Fire Mr. (Liars cover) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Literally fucking awesome...Even if it's not their own, still one of my favorites they've recorded. |
R.E.M. – Chance Lyrics | 13 years ago |
My name is Chance. So this song thrills me lots. Ha. |
Ke$ha – Mr. Watson Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Oh, please, no one is using Ke$ha as a role model. Calm down. This song is hilarious. |
Phoenix – Armistice Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I love this song so much. Anyone notice how adorably he says "armistice"? Maybe it's just me. Ahh, France. |
Placebo – Evil Dildo Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Listening to it right now, seriously freaked out. Seenoevilhearnoevilspeaknoevil! Such a cool song regardless, I just need daylight to appreciate it >.> It's hidden in "Burger Queen", so it's definitely a kind of response to the sadness of the poor little gay kid in that song, getting tormented like this. |
Placebo – Scared Of Girls Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Agree with everyone! Kudos, fellow listeners :P My favorite song of Without You I'm Nothing, just makes me feel ALIVE. That younger sister line just makes me feel like jamming...Whew! |
Placebo – Meds Lyrics | 14 years ago |
So easy to just leave on repeat and sing over and over... I didn't take it so literally, like, MEDICATION. Just, going off your meds = doing stupid things. I remember saying that a lot in middle school, as a joke (a dumb one, but sixth grade is sixth grade)..."Are you off your meds?" The protagonist just sounds really depressed in the song, other people are worried, etc. Maybe it SHOULD be taken literally. |
Placebo – Broken Promise Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Such a lovely song, one of my favorites off of Meds. Infidelity was the feeling I got right away, and that was confirmed. Both Michael Stipe and Brian add so much to the song...I love this one part when Brian's singing "I'll wait my turn to tear inside you" and it goes kinda "yooooooooooooooouuuuuu", he just sounds so distraught. The whole song is amazing, he sounds so pissed at the end, right until. "I'll wait my....[bleh] turn." That "turn" is just flat and disappointing after such a great song, anyone else notice? |
Company of Thieves – Oscar Wilde Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Supposedly a lot of Company of Thieves' songs are laced with Oscar Wilde quotes - I just haven't taken the time to track any down. This is a great song, though. The message sticks with me. It's not just about Oscar Wilde's writings, but the author himself. He preached aestheticism, which was all about beauty. I did my final report on Oscar Wilde, the song made a lot more sense to me after that. It's rather haunting in sound and lyrics. Great song, I was surprised not to see it on more "best of 2009" lists. |
She Wants Revenge – Tear You Apart Lyrics | 14 years ago |
It's just sex. Really, guys? Sex. |
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Dull Life Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Political? Man, I'm not so sure. It's the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, for chrissakes! Definitely one of their best songs, ever. Favorite from It's Blitz, I think, if only because it's reminiscent of their past work. I see it just as being imprisoned in suburbia. Although they're an NYC band, so huh...It could correspond with the message in "Zero". Breaking the mold, becoming more than a zero, leaving suburbia. |
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Rockers to Swallow Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Kinda sounds like a groupie anthem, no? They wanna get to the top, so they swallow for all the rockers they can! That's what I think, anyway. But the line is "Tell me WHAT rockers to swallow". That's what their DVD was called, doubt they'd just change it. |
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Machine Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Vibrator or not, it's about sex. Sex machine, ya know? This EP was disappointing, but I liked this song a lot :) |
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Faces Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song is so cute and lovely. "If it's gonna be at all then it's gonna be with you." Mmm, wonderful. |
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Diamond Sea (Sonic Youth cover) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I should probably listen to the original BEFORE I crown this the most beautiful rendition of any song ever, but...hmm. It sounds pretty incomparable. SO beautiful. |
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Black Tongue Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Best Yeah Yeah Yeahs song EVER. So much to love...the beginning guitar with her lovely little climax and the "Hot!". The uh-huhs. That wonderful chorus "Boy you just a stupid bitch and girl you just a no good dick". That is golden. I love the tune, this song will NEVER grow old. I love the first line to the last. It's all SO fantastic. But yeah, no clue what it means >.< |
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Skeletons Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Apparently this was the song that inspired ALL of It's Blitz. Or something. I agree with the free association thing. It just kinda sounds like random poetry, but I don't hate it. You can tell they were striving for a masterpiece, the next "Maps", and it's a good song...but not quite. I love all their music, but the closest they've come to matching the vulnerable greatness of "Maps" was "Cheated Hearts". Not this. It's definitely not bad, though. |
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Soft Shock Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I'm not entirely sure why everyone's creaming their pants over this song. I don't hear anything remarkable. I like the new album, so it's not that I'm close-minded because I miss the old stuff (although I kinda do T.T). Just, after the amazingly spazzy "Zero" and that wonderful, wonderful dancefloor anthem "Heads Will Roll", it falls flat :/ |
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – No No No Lyrics | 14 years ago |
You know, this isn't their best work. It's not an awful song. It's absolutely vital to Fever to Tell, providing that transition to the amazement of "Maps" and the other less sex-centric songs tailing the album. The end reminds me of the remix of "Pin" from their Machine EP, which was haunting and cool but I don't really enjoy listening to at any given moment. The guitar + drums intro is really cool, though. Solid beat. |
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Poor Song (Porcelain) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I remember my first time listening to Fever to Tell. Just as I was assembling the various bits of my mind that had just been absolutely BLOWN off the walls, the wonderful little "mmmm-tch-mmm-mmm-tch" emerges and I just sort of froze. I sat through this song and was just...blown away again. I love the build of this album, cocky and sexual to the vulnerability of "Modern Romance", and then this. I like that she murmurs it, it sounds like she's been worked, "fucked with", but she's not through! Karen O. Yeah Yeah Yeahs in general. I love you more than life, and I think this song really made that decision for me. |
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Sheena Is a Punk Rocker (The Ramones cover) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Better than the original! She sounds adorable and uncontrolled, like the Fever to Tell days. Can't get enough. |
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – 10x10 Lyrics | 14 years ago |
You guys! Eureka moment! I was just listening to Is Is (mmmm, can never get enough of that EP) and it struck me: Witches. Maybe. Right? Am I alone? Figuratively, as in witch = bad person. The obvious: "10x10, 3x3 Was the house that buried me Did I really drown?" The house that buried her...? As in, The Wicked Witch of the East? Wizard of Oz? Anyone? Plus, we've all learned that one of the tests in the witch trials was to see whether or not someone drowns. If you don't, you're a witch. Ya know? Makes sense, right? "Ten wives tearing up my leisure Pressing little mouths going to talk my way Going to talk my way" She's done something to be convicted of being a witch - to steal from earlier comments, sleep with these ten wives husbands? "Three nails pounded in the front door Start a few fires and end my stay" I remember reading somewhere (don't know where) as a kid about pounding nails into wood (a tree, in the story, I believe) killing a witch. Falling together, right? And "start a few fires" - burn her at the stake, thus "end[ing] her stay"? Please tell me I'm not alone. Some of the other lyrics I can't quite figure out (the dogs and seashore, "stolen my wife/knife"), but I felt this revelation was too good to pass up. Any opinions? |
