This song is beautiful. I've had a lot of inner turmoil as to what "Arienette" stands for, but I believe, like many of Oberst's metaphors, that it's no so one dimensional. She's a character that was in his head once who probably made quite an impact, whether she stands for a lost lover, an ideal lover, or just a mask to relieve his self-critical introspection, the way he's displayed her for us to see is lovely. Really, this whole album had a great vision, and is so sincere in it's design, that I applaud him not only for his seamless presentation, but for the honesty he releases to the masses. |
