No one has got the lyrics *quite* right yet.. Intro: Tonight, tonight, tonight [Matthew Santos] The stars are alignin, the planets collidin' Their plan is arrivin, and she's out there smilin' The fear is upon us, the skies tried to warn us Their parents are gone, there's no children to mourn them It's driving me crazy, this war is my lady* We've bombed all our babies and God is amazing* The tick of the time or the slip of the rhyme* Or the pimp and the rise they're your faults* There you'll find her Hey, hey (I'm not even sure about those last few lines with Asterisks on the end.. they've got that old-telephone sounding effect on Matt's vox that makes it incredibly hard to distinguish- but as a professional in recording arts, I think I got it pretty close.) /Song Interpretation.. Overall the song is a story of a plague-like "Worst Case Scenario" and what would happen within our society. He definitely uses some specifics... but I wouldn't go so far as to say it describes something like the New World Order. The "disease" isn't necessarily HIV.. it's just some unknown/incurable/very lethal disease of a "worst case scenario" that is a threat to the populous. He still weaves his characters of The Cool into this story, but I wouldn't say that everything is a metaphor for conformity and the Cool. He's just telling a story here. "Disease, the virus is spreading in all directions No safe zone, no cure and no protection No symptoms DEFINE the signs of an infection No vaccines remedies and no corrections. Quarantine the dreams and seal off all connections Don't let em in, not a friend, not a reflection. Everybody's got it and want you to have it next and Don't accept 'em if you wanna stay as an exception" The first verse goes on telling this Worst Case Scenario story and how different aspects of society would react. Now there are DEFINITELY some parallels within the song that relate to what "the powers that be" do to influence/manipulate our media, education and politics.. "'Believe!' So say the neon signs By the loud speakers repeating That everything is fine A subtle silence To demolish the troubled conscious Of a populous with no knowledge And every freedom denied. Every dream is designed and broadcasted From the masters to the masses From the antennas on top of their shrines Was fine then receiving plannin during the panic and surely* It reports back everything in your mind Everything is lying Everything is dying Everything is a rule Everything is a crime Everything was healed Then everything rewind and New weather burning feathers off everything flyin'" The second verse goes along to describe a little about the propaganda machine parroting "Everything is fine," but it ends with the realization that everything is NOT fine. Everything is lying, everything is dying, etc.. The "new weather burnin feathers off everything flyin'" is a reference to Acid Raid I believe.. when a nuke hits, the fallout will ultimately mix with the rain and create this unfortunate phenomenon. |
