Of Monsters And Men – Little Talks Lyrics 13 years ago
:O And when the female is singing it's her voice inside his head and he's having a conversation with himself. The female voice is the irrational part of him that is going crazy, and the male voice is the rational part of him.

You're a genius

Of Monsters And Men – Little Talks Lyrics 13 years ago
While I realize that all the emotion in the music points it to being about about a relationship where one is leaving the other, I still can relate to this song on the interpretation that this song is about a guy and his loved one is suffering from a mental illness. I'll tell you why...

I don't like walking around this old and empty house
So hold my hand, I'll walk with you my dear

First off, she doesn't like whats in her mind. Her mind is symbolised by the "old and empty house".
Her boyfriend is suppourtive of her and assures her that it's okay and he'll be with her anyways by walking with her. He'll suppourt her.

The stairs creak as I sleep, it's keeping me awake
It's the house telling you to close your eyes

She's having troubles falling asleep because the thoughts, the "stairs", keep "creaking" and disturbing her causing her to lose sleep. Again, the boyfriend is suppourtive and tells her to sleep and everything will be alright.

Somedays I can't trust myself

Somedays she can't trust herself becaue she is going insane or having a break down. She might be trying to cope with the illness with self-destructive habits such as cutting, drugs, alcahol, etc. And she can't "trust herself" to not do those things to cope.

It's killing me to see you like this my dear

It's "killing" her boyfriend to see her go through this illness and self-destructive habits.

'Cause though the truth may vary

This makes me think that she might be bipolar of have bordline personality disorder because how she is changing fairly often. The "truths" that she tells vary from time to time depending on her mood.

This ship will carry
Our bodies safe to shore

This ship is the relationship and it's going to carry her along with her boyfriend to a bitter place, the shore. It's going to carry the bodies because the bodies are detached from the mind. The bodies have no ailments. So when she is ideal, without the illness of her mind, they will reach a wonderful place.

Hey! Hey! Hey!

The three hey's are demonstrating that the illness is urgent, and is indeed a problem.

There's an old voice in my head that's holding me back

The old voice is the negative thoughts in her head. Making it hard for her to start to feel better.

I tell her that I miss our little talks

He misses the way she used to be before the illness, and he wants her to get better in a suppourtive way. There's a bit of sarcastic humour in that line.

Soon it will all be over, buried with our past

She has some hope of getting better. And she realises that when she dies it will be gone, but their relationship won't be. They will life together forever and the illness will be in the past.

You used to play outside when you were young,
Full of life and full of love

Wow, this actually really reminds me of my bestfriend who is bipolar. She was so happy before the illness kicked in. Anyways, she used to be really happy and energetic, but then the illness started to come in and now she isn't happy at all. She has turned almost a complete 180 degrees from where she used to be.

Some days I feel like I am wrong and I am right

She often feels like she is making wrong descisions. She also feels like everything is wrong, when it is right. I'm not really sure how to explain it, but she thinks that she is thinking wrongly or making a wrong choice when it actually is a right one.

Your mind is playing tricks on you my dear
The comforting boyfriend is back! He's just trying to comfort her, and also suppourt her.

Hey!
Don't listen to a word I say
Hey!
The screams all sound the same
Hey!

These lines are her saying that she is gunna gripe, complain tons, and be a general pain. But she doesn't want him to leave her. She wants him to be suppourtive of her and be there for her. She doesn't want him to worry too much about her. Her complaining is going to be repetative.
The "hey!" part is her bringing it to his attention more and making sure he knows that its going to be hard but it is somethign that they are going to have to deal with.

Go go go away
I wish you'd disappear

She wants teh thoughts and the illness to disappear and go away.

All that's left is a ghost of you
Now we're torn torn torn apart, there's nothing we can do
Just let me go, me against you

Now the wonderful suppourtive boyfriend has had enough. He leaves her, or atleast he expresses how he wants to leave because there is only a trace, a ghost, of how his girlfriend used to be. The illness is breaking them apart.
When you listen to the song both of them are singing. She thinks that her illness is too hard on him and she wants his life to be easier by him not having to deal with her.

Now wait wait wait for me
Please hang around
I see you when I fall asleep

Oh look! he changed his mind and comes running back and realises that he was wrong in leaving her and that he still wants to suppourt her.

The Exies – What You Deserve Lyrics 14 years ago
I listen to this song alot... :P Anyways, for me it's about being really hard on yourself. "I do this to myself, me and no one else" He's nice to the rest of the world, but he is always finding a fault with himself.

Aesop Rock – Coffee (feat. John Darnielle) Lyrics 14 years ago
First off I wanna say that I love an intelligent thread >:)Now I would think that this particular song is about lawyers, consumerism, and fast paced North American life.

The first verse is about consumerism. Hence the porcelain dolls and empty cave references. The reason I think it's a lawyer is because they are usually fairly wealthy people who would "mourn a loss" because it'd damage their reputation. They are also the "author of the law" to a certain degree. The "new recruit with a play-dough spine" is the spineless new lawyer that doesn't have what it takes to win. HE isn't willing to try and bend the truth o win. Which is unfortunately the type of "justice" system we have.

In the second verse the first few lines give me the image of a kid that has grown up believing in consumerism. He's stolen and cheated to get what he wanted because of the lies "man who expire with the most shit win". He got busted by a cop and the lawyer put him into jail.
"how it throws off otherwise lucid events" - how North Americans can be so focused on consumerism that they miss special moments because they are too busy trying to make money.
The "pro-ked box full of layman's terms" gives me the idea that this lawyer is religious, though in his practice as a lawyer he doesn't much follow what he claims to believe. "Don't go to war with you... don't start the barbecue", the lawyer is saying "hey, just because I'm not battling you in court, don't tempt me. Because I can and I will if you do"
"my high noon is a quick little minute" his lunch break is short, and is time is pressed in general. Hence why he gets annoyed. He doesn't want to spend it with people who are not going to understand materialism and why he does what he does. He doesn't want to spend it with people who don't look at life the same way as him. The "no phone service..." part is about him driving home to his house in the country. Though he's a lawyer, he did it for the money. When the time is right he'll move into the music industry because he's always wanted to be a musician. He'll still be pressed for time and not care for chitchat after his life as a lawyer.

The ending makes me think that all the stress of the face paced life has finally gotten to him. Now he's sitting alone in a basement, and has gone slightly crazy from the stress and possibly guilt from helping out people who were clearly guilty. His wife has left him since he never spent time with her, and he may be paying for her and the kids to live with the line "there's an envelope with money on the front porch".

The chorus is more or less saying: We don't want the useless conversations, and we don't want to hear you open your mouth to "cough" out some remark or comment. We want our coffee, we want to live in our heads, now give me my coffee and leave me alone. Coffee symbolizes corporate people since they seem to always be drinking it.

My interpretation I guess is a bit more of a story approach, but none the less basically the same thing that everyone has been saying. I hope that I too can write lyrics like this some day.

Crimson and Clover are only two words that the artist liked. And they came together really well. So he made a song about them. It's that simple.
