Neil Young – Dance, Dance, Dance Lyrics 13 years ago
Just bought the 1971 Massey Hall album. Love this song. Absolutely stands apart from most of his songs which are more sad, in my opinion.

Bob Dylan – Mr. Tambourine Man Lyrics 14 years ago
i love how everyone hears this song, which is so deep and inspirational, but they take two lines "...magic ship..." & "...smoke rings of my mind..." and immediately believe it's about drugs. What about all the other lines in the song?

To me it's much deeper than 1 simple thing. It's not just marijuana, and it ain't LSD because he supposedly never touched LSD until months after it was written. I view it more as a man tired, but unable to sleep. So he listens to Mr. Tambourine Man's song, and it inspires him. He lays there and daydreams, possiby smoking marijuana as well -- I'm not saying the song is or isn't about marijuana, i'm saying it could be about marijuana but also about many other things -- , and takes in the song and the melody. He paints a beautiful picture in his mind, and by the end he's found his own inspiration. The clown follows the tambourine man's footsteps, but he will take what he learns from the tambourine man's music and follow his own path.

Fleetwood Mac – Never Going Back Again Lyrics 14 years ago
the way I see it, it's a relationship with a woman he loves so much he realizes his past relationships were meaningless, and he's never going back to feeling that way with anyone else.

Being with her makes him realize the others weren't nearly as great.

The guy is such an asshole... but he's a lyrical genius.

Neil Young – Tell Me Why Lyrics 14 years ago
such a tough song to interpret. To me it seems like a transition from youth to maturity -- he begins by trying to be in love in what's probably a broken relationship "broken harbors". He has to keep fighting through the problems, because in the end, even if she lies or hurts his feelings, even a simple smile on her face brightens his day. It's kind of romantic, in a way.

And as someone said already, the line "I am lonely but you can free me, All in the way that you smile" is one of his best lines.

Love this song so much. Not crazy about the studio version but there's a live version of this song by Neil and Crazy Horse on the live album Live Rust.

Jimmy Buffett – Twelve Volt Man Lyrics 14 years ago
One of my faves. I read the song is about an American in Baja who lives on the "essentials" which is a package of margarita mix, buffett albums, a tape recorder, an old blender and a power system he made which of an old honda generator and Sears Die Hard battery. The man would fish all week and on Fridays him and his friends would hang out, hook up the machine to listen and sing to buffett songs; they'd make margaritas and hang out until the gas ran out.

It's also supposedly one of Jimmy's favorite songs.

Jimmy Buffett – Somewhere Over China Lyrics 14 years ago
love this song so much. Sometimes I hear it and think its a story of reality and adventure and sometimes I think its simply fantasy, and the line "Just to put a little distance between fact and fantasy" outlines that perfectly. When i think of it in a sense of reality, its just taking advantage of the treasures in life to live to the fullest and do something different.

Bob Marley and the Wailers – Stir It Up Lyrics 14 years ago
I used to not think much of the song, you know, like what the true meaning of it was.

Then I heard the acoustic version, from the album Grooving Kingston 12, and it's a truly beautiful song. Like everyone else said, it's about love. The pot is the woman.

Eagles – Tequila Sunrise Lyrics 15 years ago
sapphire, im almost 100% agreed with you on it except for a few parts:

the whole "hired hand" phrase threw me off, but I simply think he's new to a town that he's come to basically for work.

Every night passes by and he's alone because he doesn't know anybody, but she's out having fun, partying, probably sleeping around a lot.

He's basically fallen in love with this girl, but the big part I disagree with is "it comes down to dealin friends." I think he's saying that since he arrived, they have basically been friends, and that although he loves her she sees him only as a friend and not as a lover.

In the end, he says that you keep trying to build up that courage to say the RIGHT thing to her, and that everything he says so far comes off as a friend, but not really showing his true passion for her -- so in the end he just drinks his sorrows away. Every morning that same tequila-colored sunrise appears in the sky. Everything is still the same from the beginning -- the sun rises the same way and looks just as beautiful, but he is still lonely and without her in his arms.
