It's off the The Smashing Pumpkins Demo Tape. This is one of my favorite pre-Gish demos. I agree with everyone's interpretation of the lyrics. I just think it's about when you are in a depressive state, you are lost and trying to find some purpose in your life because you feel so numb. |

I think this song was written about Billy's marriage to Chris. It tells the story about how he looks into her eyes and knew she felt nothing for him and in return he knew he didn't really love her either. Hence the lines, Dead eyes are you just like me? and her eyes were as vacant as the seas. He's wondering if he ever knew the person he's about to marry. I think somewhat he's even regretting his marriage. These don't seem like very loving, positive lines to me. |

I agree with the person that said it was about his ex wife Chris. It's just his frustration about his split with his wife and how just ended badly and how they never really loved her. I think a lot of the songs on Mellon Collie have to do with their marriage. |

More like a song about fake love where someone loves someone for a while and realizes that they really never loved that person in the first place and finding out that your partner feels the same way. Then you realize that your feelings on no love for one another are mutual. | |

I always thought the lyrics from Gish were bulls*** and really had no meaning at all. I just think he put in random lyrics because they fit in with the music. He did say he the music is put at the forefront of the album while the lyrics take the backseat. I really doubt these lyrics mean anything at all. |
