Well, as an actual comment on the meaning, here goes. This song is pretty straightforward. It's about rich children whose "parents ain't around enough," and who enjoy the freedoms that coming from money allows. I like to think that this song was inspired by "The Great Gatsby" in that the protagonist is "looking for real love" but ends up disillusioned. This disillusionment is great enough to push the narrator to the brink of suicide almost every time he gets drunk. Eventually, this habit catches up to him; his sleeve rips as his girlfriend tries to pull him back off the ledge. This is a really sad song. It's my favorite now. Also, I love the piano. It reminds me of "Benny and the Jets". |

The fact that the second part is called "Disillusion" really just opened my eyes. I'm not sure who is speaking, but it's the meaning rather than the person. Maybe this will all fit together in several comments, and the real meaning of this song will be revealed bit by bit. To me, the lyrics in "Disillusion" can be summed up in this: You can only know how I say, not how I mean. That is, my words can be taken any way, but only if you know how I mean them, can they make sense. That brings it back to the theory that this song is about the inadequacies of speech and how meanings beyond words can not be conveyed. Who knows? Maybe it is really about an emissary from another planet trying to tell us the meaning to the universe, but finding difficulty due to our speech process. Maybe it's about us taking to the stars, expanding, and trying to learn the meanings of the universe and then teach them, only to find no success. |

| I think I love you. I've always known that this was a special song, specifically to me. I had only an inkling of what the meaning could be, but you opened my mind and expanded on the idea I had. I want this song played at my funeral now. | |

| First! But really, this is about a man taking his wife/mistress out to the Ritz, and judging by the tone, he did something he wasn't supposed to, hence the fancy restaurant. | |

| Stairway is about finding the right religion and/or Christian denomination. No Quarter, on the other hand, is most likely about LOTF. Oh, and yeah.... Pink Floyd. | |
