Not saying that it's about anything in particular - the Eagles have the best saying out there "as long as people are trying to find meaning about our lyrics, we'll be famous. The moment they realize there isn't any, we're done." That being said, this song is super easy to determine its one of two things. 1) Sex addiction 2) Suicide. Its pretty easily determined that the line 'the killing moon will come to soon' and 'fate up against your will' leads one to perceive death. However, the line "give yourself to him" I understand as the person in question 'giving in' to death, committing suicide. I also think it could refer to a sex addiction, slowly killing the person ie, aids or whatever. Fate up against your will could also refer to having a dangerous love of sex, and denial of the illness. Since it came out right in the midst of the AIDS revelation, it's quite a plausible explanation. Furthermore the line " in starlit night i saw you, so cruelly you kissed me, your lips a magic world, your sky all hung with jewels" he's talking about meeting some rendezvous. Its talking about a face, and the feeling of another persons lips, the beauty of their eyes, but he is still sick and gunna die. lol Either way its an addictive song with the blues influence. Heard it on supernatural. Donnie darko is a highly overrated move. Good, but not Godly. |

To me this song is a challenge. its soo easy to let life get to you. the mundane, everything is just the same. You blow up your problems and get carried away in the breakdown, everything spirals out of control til you're moving in stereo - not like stereo that you listen too but living a dual life, you feel like one person on the inside but the conflict is with who you project on the outside. Flying through the window - getting things blown out of proportion. Its so tough to get up - everyday you can just let it keep you down. But like i said its a challenge to get up, live your life, who cares, don't buy into the hype of your tantrums. Or maybe i can just relate to every single lyric in this, i had a case of acopia - an inability to cope with things. Everything just blew out of proportion and played into the breakdown and couldn't get out of bed and the conflict of living in stereo. But i got over it, and thats why i think its a challenge becaues he says 'its soo easy ' to do it, so why do the easy way. its harder to deal with shit, but once you do its worth it. i dunno. just late night ramblings |

To me this is what the song means /Could you whisper in my ear The things you wanna feel I'd give ya anythin' To feel it comin'/ Is about two lovers - sex, pretty self explanatory. /Do you wake up on your own? And wonder where you are You live with all your faults/ Then feeling guilty - not saving it til marriage, or really young and unsure if that's what she wanted. /Don't you love the life you killed The priest is on the phone Your father hit the wall Your ma disowned you/ This could be interpreted in a few ways, with the general theme she could have found out she was pregnant, got scared, and aborted it. The church is denouncing her, her father is upset she's pregnant, her mother is abhorred she aborted it. /Don't supposed I'll ever know What it means to be a man Somethin' I can't change I'll live around it/ Is the meaning that the boy who impregnated her is just as young and naiive, and he doesn't have the choice to step up because the baby has either been adopted or aborted, but he can learn to live with it to be with her. Its in the chorus /I wanna wake up where you are I won't say anything at all/ Saying that he just wants to be with her, he won't mention it, or think bad about her for making that decision. /So why don't you slide/ - learn to let it go /And I'll do anythin' you ever dreamed to be complete Little pieces of the nothin' that fall/ - he'll be with her and help her through it the 'nothing' or the depression that 'fall' come and go. /Oh May Put your arms around me What you feel is what you are And what you are is beautiful/ - reassuring her that he'll be there for her and that she is not a bad person she's beautiful and wonderful and lovely..all the things us girls like to hear /Oh May Do you wanna get married, or run away?/ - basically him saying he'll go with her with whatever she decides because he loves her even if she doesn't love herself - made more obvious running away from all of it he'll be there, and her facing it and moving on the 'marriage' he'll be there. /Yeah, slide between the sheet of all the beds you never knew/ - saying she grew up soo fast because of this situation and he's telling her to just go back and live her youth. /Why don't you slide into my room Just slide into my room Oh, we'll run away, run away, run away... / - saying he'll help her live her life together, who cares about everyone else they only need each other and to be young and in love. alternatively this song could be about doing drugs - i'll give you anything to feel it coming (the fix) waking up in strange places, living with the knowledge that you are an addict, looking for the fix, tearing your family apart, no one can reach you the priest the dad the mom, killing her own life with addiction, the not knowing to be man could be the addiction controlling the life and not being 'man' enough to get away from it or helping the girl with the addiction but he lives around it (gets high). But waking up where you are, not saying anything, the drugs don't judge. the little pieces of a nothing that fall, the drugs are not filling the void, but for a brief second its there and falls away. the married or run away could be the person facing up married or running away with the addiction. slide into my room - could mean the place to get high, the term slide represents the needle or the high "why dont you slide" why dont you get high. but as the eagles said about hotel california "as long as people are trying to make sense of our lyrics we'll be famous" so it could just be random words thrown together. its a quick interpretation hopefully insightful lol |
