| Taylor Swift – Love Story Lyrics

ok so I don't really listen to this music very much but it was on the radio and I was thinking about how Taylor Swift usually writes about her experiences and I was hoping someone would know what experience that was. Anyways, I really don't think Swift has a clue what the book "The Scarlett Letter" is about, and I doubt she had read Romeo and Juliet at the time she wrote the song either. She managed to reference to love stories, both with tragic endings, in a song that ends up all neat and happy. I agree with that guy on the first page that "Pride and Prejudice" or "Jane Eyre" would have been better to base her song on. This song really makes no sense when you think about it. |

Its a big deal when its Rihanna because Rihanna never really did songs with this sort of subject matter before...not because she's a girl. People expect other hip-hop artists to do songs like this but Rihanna??I'm sorry but before Chris Brown all her songs were lighter and listened to by 12 year olds. I think it's because of Chris Brown that her songs got more intense. If it were another female artist who routinely does songs like this, it wouldn't be a big deal, but its Rihanna. However, there is a big difference between sexual oppression and not liking this song. In my opinion, this song actually objectifies women. I don't like male artists who make songs like this either, but how on earth can you say that this song is about taking control of your sexuality?? "Tonight Imma let you be the captain/Tonigh Imma let you do your thing yea"???"Tonight Imma let you be a rider??" She's just turning herself into a sex toy. |

I this song is about a girl who likes one of her teachers, and because he is young and a guy he is attracted to her. However he does try to resist it because he know that he is not supposed to be with her. The "talk in the classroom" is just rumors flying about him and this girl because it looks like something could be going on with them.I think he is telling her not to "stand so close to me" because he doesn't know whether or not he will be able to resist her. |

I don't think this song is racist, or that it was written to be racist. I hate how every song that I have looked at on this site, some idiot has tried to make it into some religious or racial or political statement when for the most part artists don't try to make statements, they try to sell records. |

| Green Day – 21 Guns Lyrics

Honestly, this song is written fantastically, but the lyrics really annoy me. I do not know how most of you people missed this but a 21 gun salute is what is played at the funeral of a soldier who died in battle. I don't think the song has much to do with Christianity but it definitely is anti-war. The way it is written with references to a 21 gun salute in a song about pacifism and the line
"Did you try to live on your own
When you burned down the house and home?
Did you stand too close to the fire?
Like a liar looking for forgiveness from a stone" are very offensive to veterans. Many times extreme pacifists will call soldiers "Baby Killers" and accuse them of other crimes. The stone has nothing to do with Christianity as has been suggested but just represents an inanimate object, something that will never forgive. |

I never thought about the girl as a prostitute but I went back and reread the lyrics and applied that theory to it and that really makes a lot more sense than anything else. Whether or not she was a prostitute he definitely was not supposed to sleep with her. She also may have been extremely young or married. |

I believe that this song is about a guy and a girl who are in love but then she leaves and breaks his heart because she wants to see what she is capable of and she wants a bigger and better life than she can have with him.Than she comes back "Now that she's back in the atmosphere
I'm afraid that she might think of me as plain ol' Jane
Told a story about a man who is too afraid to fly so he never did land"
and wants to get back together and he is asking her about her experiences and how she has changed if she has. He is worried that she will think of him as a yocal who never found where he belonged because he never left. I also think that he sort of admires her, like in the verse "She checks out Mozart while she does tae-bo
Reminds me that there's room to grow, hey, hey " While at the same time a little mad at her for leaving him "Was it everything you wanted to find
And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there??"

| The Fray – How To Save A Life Lyrics

The band wrote a song about a close friend of Isaac Slade who was a drug addict and was contemplating suicide. Literally this song is about talking a person out of suicide and is basically a sort of manual on how to do it. However, this song can also describe what it is like to watch a loved one become seriusly and terminally ill and what it is like for the friends and family of that person. That is why it is especially poignant to me, because as someone with a severely ill family member I know what it feels like to watch someone deteriorate over time and not be able to do something about. It talks about the emotions that you go through, which include grief before the person is even dead and about how you are affected by that person's changes. The chorus is very close to how a person dealing a sick loved one would feel, because many times we feel guilty about not having been there more and also about how even before they die you have "Lost a friend" but at the same time almost like there isnt anything you could have done because that person has changed so drastically they are no longer the person you once knew. |

| Rihanna – Russian Roulette Lyrics

I do not agree with this at all. Russian Roulette is a game where a bunch of people get in a circle with a revolver loaded with one live bullet. Each person takes a turn firing at their own head. This is not an appropriate metaphor for love. I believe that it is not so much about her relationship with Chris Brown as a fictional relationship. The guy in the song is the "he" and the girlfriend is the narrator. the Guy is totally manipulative and convinces her that if she pulls the trigger than she is truly in love with him or some other BS. The narrator does not really want to kill herself, but she believes that she is in love with him and must do it to prove herself even though he is just using her and betting on her life. The line you mentioned "He's never lost" is incomplete. The full line is "And then I get a scary thought/That he's here means he's never lost" In Russian Roulette, you only lose if bullet fires. If he has never lost, The bullet is still in the gun. I believe that this thought occurs to her in the split second between pulling the trigger and when the bullet fires. The rest of the song is her dying and regretting pulling the trigger, because she never intended to dye. She only intended to "Pass this test", Because she viewed this as a chance to prove herself to her boyfriend. This song is not about love at all, it is about abuse and manipulation and more specifically about one abusive relationship which ends in a non-suicidal girl killing herself to prove her "love" In this light, it is actually somewhat disturbing that you thought it was about love. |

I think this song is about how you cannot have it all, and you will always have difficult spots in your life and there is nothing you can do to avoid that. However, that does not mean you should give up because everyone will also have good moments in their life and just because you hit a rough patch does not mean that you are not destined for greatness. I don't think that it is a love song like some people above ^^ are suggesting |
