Napalm Death – Just Rewards Lyrics 13 years ago
You get your just rewards that are just in the eyes of the powers that be. The powers that be have no idea of how hard you worked or what part you played in any process. You are only as good as your direct colleagues and are dragged down by their failures no matter how much you had nothing to do with them. This applies directly to the corporate feudal state. As the "thank you's" get passed down the chain from the top to bottom, at some level, there will always be someone that will happily take the credit for everyone "beneath" them and leave them (those that actually did the work) in a looping track. These are the unsung heroes in every situation, those that usually do the "real" work. These are the ones that "Dig the dirt" and when any of them speak up, they "swim against the sanctimonious tides." Additionally, the real workers are not usually glory hounds thus the vicious cycle continues. Thus; If the face fits, we wear it. Faces fit while heart and soul slopes on. Heart and soul is worn down at the bottom level by the great machine.

Figurines – Release Me On The Floor Lyrics 15 years ago
Stephen Deadless, Modest Mouse and their ilk are just as two-dimensional and full of themselves as you probably are.

The Figurines actually represent the most humble and honest music that I've heard in a long ass time and they fricken rule especially when compared to all the indie cookie cutter bands like Modest Mouse. OK, I'm done hypocritically ranting about my opinions. I just really hate comments like that.

This song speaks to the beyond in such an epic way. It seems to be about getting to that point where you're lost and you need to keep going (release me on the floor for one day more) each day as you reach for new meaning. This whole album sort of has that sweet melancholy of hearbreak written underneath a lot of it but manages to be very positive and hopeful at the same time. This song is like an ode to the wonderment of striving for the unknown.

The Raconteurs – Broken Boy Soldier Lyrics 15 years ago

Oh, and "going back to school today But I'm dropping myself off" is obviously a newfound need to take your education seriously and do it for yourself; whether it be literally going back to school or learning according to what drives you to be what you want to be. "I'm throwing the childhood scenes away" is casting off all the things that took the inner child away from the right path and brought you to where you are; be it peers, drugs, bad posture, laziness, whatever. I don't think this song is dark or cryptic at all; but very positive; about flipping the bird to everything that holds you back in life; very rock'n'roll.

The Raconteurs – Broken Boy Soldier Lyrics 15 years ago
Every kid has a perfect vision of how they want to be when they grow up. This song is all about getting back in touch with that inner child that knows your true passions.

"I'm done ripping myself off" refers to how people take the easy way out or become lazy when they really know deep inside what needs to be done. Maybe Jack White experienced this, but I think it is more general since everyone most likely goes throught the same crisis.

I think "toys that were handed down to me" refers to bad habits handed down to you by your family that you can't shake because you don't know any better. They get in the way of how you want to develop and mature.

"I'm pulling my questions from my shelf
I'm asking forgiveness"
To get on the right path, everyone needs to get past their shame and figure out things that they've put off for far too long. These are all the old entanglements of life that prevent you from moving forward.

This is a very inspiring song!
