The movie is pure awesomeness and I really like the song...it grows on me each time I watch the movie. The lyrics make me think of losing someone, whether it be from death or the end of a relationship. And wanting that person back and not seeing an end to wanting them back. So much that you will wait for them forever..."until I'm set free" could mean either by death or finally somehow getting over losing that person. They know that this person isn't coming back...but still...they wait. Painful. |

One of my favorite songs at the moment. I love all of Yeasayer's stuff (and got to see them at the House of Blues recently!!:) but this song just makes me feel stronger when I listen to it. Reminds me to keep my eye on the prize at the end of this long tunnel I feel I am in at the moment. And that prize will be a degree and a better life, then I can snub my nose at the woman I am in love with who recently broke not only my heart, but my nose as well. |

Yeah to me this song is about losing someone you love and wanting more than anything in the world to just be able to forget them so you can stop walking around filled with such sadness and sorrow. I relate. I miss someone so much sometimes I wonder what I would do if there really was a way to erase the memory of her. I have never been one to think "its better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all" because the pain of loving someone that you can't be with anymore is more painful than never having it to begin with.

First of all, no one was talking to your dumb ass. Second, for someone's mind to go to THAT instead of, oh I dunno....something NORMAL. Yeah he has issues. And the song is CLEARLY NOT about what he said!! It is a RIDICULOUS interpretation. PERIOD. |

I agree with the above post. Also it could easily be about a woman in an unhappy relationship that stays because of the financial support as others have mentioned. I just LOVE this band. Every song is amazing. I literally can not listen to the crap they play on the radio these days (wow I feel old saying that lol) and bands like Broken Bells renew my love of music with every note they make. |

To me this song seems to be about how life can seem so meaningless. And there are a couple of references to suicide in the lyrics. Makes me think of my ex girlfriend who killed herself recently. She let loss be her guide...her mother killed herself and then so did she a little over 3 years later. And its too late for her to change her mind. |

It isn't "see the sin in the sea". It is "Citizen you will see" hence the name of the song....

I love this song. I think he is asking his ex to come back but just not yet because it is still too soon. There is still too much pain ("and I hate that tomorrows too soon") meaning he isn't over the hurt yet, but he misses her and given some time he will be over the hurt and ready to resume the relationship. I can relate to this song since this is exactly what I am going thru. I miss my recent ex gf but with the way things ended and the way she treated me I just cant be a part of her life right now...maybe August, maybe June :p
The part I am not sure about is when he says "I'm building higher than I can see"...does he mean he is building her up in his mind or that he is building himself up to be better upon her return? |
