I think your analysis of the song is very close to being on target. I would refer you back to aebassist from 6.19.2005: "I think what the story is trying to show is how the average Americans (and I only say American because of the little town USA line, it can also hold true for most of the world) just goes about there lives thinking everything is ok, but they don't realize that very bad things are happening in the world. The Strangefolk, I believe, are the powerful minortity (government officials, corporations) that aim to become richer and more powerful at the expense of the rest of us. As Happyfolk, we don't always see what the elite are doing, but eventually things will blow up, either environmentally or through a revolution, and its going to destroy us all." This to me is the very essence of this song; and in turn the lingering epitome of our time. As I have said this song will be as relevant now as it was then and as it will be in the future. Kudos to Gorillaz for letting their artistry have meaning and substance. |

This is the most relevant comment on this page! even tho it was done 5 years ago it is amazing to me how much has stayed the same- if not gotten worse... This song is going to be true in 2010 as well as in 2030...I guarantee it! |
