I think it's about an inexperienced bloke who over romanticises things and had 'no regard for the cost of saying his feelings' because he just says what he feels rather than holding back. This puts the girl off and makes the relationship lose its flair fast. Because of this, the 'promises' they made each other in the summer were lost because the flair was gone. The girl on the other hand, is used to this kinda thing and was just calm about it, she made the promises and didn't say how she felt because she knew how it goes (she's 'locked up inside of' her loops) and the same happens to her every summer. The promises were simply a 'fairytale climbing up' too steep - it was never going to happen no matter how much he wanted it to. If he was as experienced as the girl, he would've known 'all he had to say was goodbye' because there was no chance they were going to see each other again. Although it was the 'same old' for her, she really hurt him, he felt the 'heartbreak'. Another song about long distance relationships in my opinion... |

To me, this song isn't particularly about a long term relationship but more of a short fling. The girl sees it as being purely physical and lustful - the guy felt the same but it all changes. They meet up in the same place every time (the 'meeting place'). She notices he is getting attached and they won't be together for long (possibly a long distance between them) and she knows it can't go the way he wants to. 'The colder the night gets the further she strains' is implying he becomes too warming when they are together, she strains because she realises he is becoming attached to her. 'Her heart had left her there' because it hurts her to break his heart but she knows she has to. After the fling, 'she clings to his conciousness' everywhere he goes, he's brooding - he misses what he thought he had. It makes it hard for him to sleep or to concentrate in the day, because he just keeps remembering and replaying the moment she broke it off. Sleeping makes it all the harder because he can't get over her if he has such vivid dreams of what happened. 'He stranded himself there' because he put all his love into something she didn't - he's heartbroken. Extremely relatable... |

what the fuck are you talking about?! this song is written about suicide and you think its about being happy? Its blatantly written for the sad moments so you can let out your emotions... i wouldnt play this song if i was in a happy mood? Do you even listen to the lyrics? |

People are saying its about Zelda or Mario, but in the interviews he says he wrote a block of writing on a plane journey and it was just about how he felt about things and then took his inspiration from that and turned them into songs...
I know Dev is into comics and all that, but i mean Zelda. Really? I doubt he'd have such a passion for a game? :P |

Probably one of my favourite songs from Humbug, i know alot of my friends really criticise it, but i like how you see how they have matured and its so different and mysterious its amazing lol. If you really listen to the words and the meaning, you could possibly prefer it to their past albums and their style before Humbug. |

I think this songs about like how older generations expect so much from youths, and they expect them to do what they have failed at. This puts alot of stress on the kids and they are being forced to go into the things they dont have passion for. Like: "'I see songs in shapes and colours
Not nuclear physics or pottery ovens"
This is saying that like people expect them to go into jobs that other people think highly of, but this destroys kids creativity, just so the parents can be proud of their children when the child might like creative subjects such as music, art, etc.
They also say that children are basically dead as soon as they are born: "Bear this child directly into misery" This is because the childs future is already planned out for them, its not their own but the one that their parents wished they'd had: "So I can be the beacon of hope that you'd always expected"
Then the band tell you to not be like that : "So stick with your instincts
Stick with the imprints"
It basically means dont do what they want you to do, do what you want.
