I think it’s about young love — not necessarily young people in love, just love in the beginning — and growing in the relationship. Maturing, and realizing that in fact the one person you believed to be your soulmate is just one chapter in your life. Your heart blinded you at first, then your mind came in and woke you up. No matter how much it hurts, your conscious tells you you’ve grown out of eachother. “Split and divided on the ground I went to my cellar, I found some glue I stick myself together for now” — You make the realization, aren’t ready to let go. Keep it together for now. “And baby steps, like the day we felt The beaches, not the sand It's a place in mind, Where we sit and like to shut off and just live for a while” — You’re stuck in a perspective that doesn’t allow you to look at the small details, what makes things not work. The things you can’t fix. Blinded at first. But it was so nice then. “I'm scattered like ashes on the ground Tired of blowing around I'm thin like a wire, I'm tangled up I'm fraying at the end of the rope” — Two very different pictures. You almost don’t know what to do with yourself now that you’re awake and see clearly. But in the end, it isn’t a good idea to keep yourself in the situation. |

I've always imagine the song being less literal, more symbolic. Life without love is like being asleep. You can't feel much of anything. Your eyes are closed. You're almost unconscious. Once you finally experience the feeling of being in love, you're shaken and waken up. You see your life before it as dull, lifeless, and kind of on autopilot. "When does love decide now to shake you and wake you up?" |

| I totally wish I could ask Ace what meaning he has hidden in this song. Some parts are pretty obvious, but all of the lyrics together kind of throw me off a bit. | |

I found it a bit interesting how the lyrics kind of jump tense every once in a while. Or it could be my hearing the words wrong. Rocky relationship, one person going in and out, and the other accepting things as they come, up until the other person finds someone new. The person who was left alone believed the relationship would always be there, if they were in or if they were out, even though he was the person being left. He never believed she'd go so far as finding someone new. But she did, and he was "lost." If the tense had anything to do with it, I'd say they go through that sort of thing a lot. Enough to be confused of where they stand at some points. |
