The Last Shadow Puppets – Time Has Come Again Lyrics 15 years ago
I think any lyric is subject to metaphors open to the public, meaning they don't always mean anything specifically. So any lyric from this song can be analyzed in fragments. Such as saying it means "happy times", when "love was new", etc. Above is just my vision after hearing both songs this way.

I agree the people mentioning the song is about an old couple and tying this to "Meeting Place".

In this song I believe the old man has finally gotten over part of the trauma of "Meeting Place" where the old man could not go near it after his lover past away. He now goes and reminisces of the time when they used to meet. The lover used to show up early, so he would always walk down the steps while she was already there waiting for him. The 3rd stanza shows this and also shows how the man reminisces over the time when they were young: with him sweating, the notes, and meeting under the moonlight(being romantic and in love).
The part, "She went to soon", might have a double meaning since. The straightforward one is that she showed up at the meeting place early and the second could be that the old man believes she left him(past away) too soon. Alex sings this lyric twice so I believe that might have been the effect he wanted.

To my understanding you put the song in your situation(its understandable) but it doesn't mean that this song isn't about 2 old lovers, because I believe it is. Musicians are story tellers. Alex and Miles are the tellers of this one. Just because Arctic Monkeys has a different style of lyrics don't assume Alex will write the same for all his songs, same goes for Miles.

Truly great lyrics from these young lads. Great stuff!

Why? Because this album is almost like a relationship itself. This is obviously the END of a WHOLE relationship. Any song can be cut in pieces and interpreted as experiences, the whole album is an experience, old people are full of experience. You saying the song isn't mentioning an old couple is ignorance.

TLSP obviously uses the image of an old man who has lost his lover to death. You link this to "Meeting Place" and you see this is where the old man finally got over a trauma of going near the meeting place. He now goes and reminisces. "If only they were seventeen" obviously brings attention time, when they WERE younger.

Just because you put the song in YOUR situation like callmepresh, doesn't mean that wasn't what the song's context was about.

Everyone has good ideas, but I think this song is tied to "The Times Has Come Again."
It makes sense since both songs speak about the meeting place. I believe that in this song an old man thinks about his lover that has past away. He struggles to go to the meeting place as it invokes emotional feelings. The man sleeps at night imagining her saying, "I'm sorry I met you darling, I sorry I left you," but he hears the words as echoes, since she has past away. On the 5th stanza he remembers when they were young and happy, yet always knew in the back of their minds that the death would come. "They knew the time would come and time would be cruel, because it is cruel to everyone." The meeting place is probably where they first met or in my belief probably where they used to meet (secretly or not) before going out together.

Hearing this song and the next one on the album is really sad. The whole album has great songs referring to relationships, great stuff!
