| Read my comment I mention that I've met Brendan and Spencer and asked them about this song. I didn't explain in excruciating detail...but your pretty much dead on in this interpretation, bravo! | |

Alright your all sort of right except for Aaron Brown who's just an idiot... I've met Brendan and Spencer and they are good christian guys as much as some people may doubt it... This whole album was about irony in their lives. Screwed up situations that show how screwed up the world is becoming. This song in specific shows how sex and money can corrupt just about anyone. The virgin is not a euphamism...the character Brendan is referring to really was a virgin "believe me I've asked him" and she did what she did for money...period...the message shows how money corrupts and ruins good people. This situation is ironic because the lawyer is taking part in an act that he usually puts people in jail for. As for interpretation there are three key signs that the girl described was a virgin prior to this: First of all prostitutes don't typically carry a rosary, second a prostitute would not have any clue what a compact was; only a strict catholic would use one "in this case out of guilt", and finally throughout the whole song Brendan refers to her as THE VIRGIN!!! Don't doubt the song writer...the guy is a poetic genius and he exemplifies it through his understanding of reality! As for the part involving the constable...it wasn't just karma that she got caught the lawyer set her up after paying her to have sex with him and henceforth she will never assume her position in his office. As I said before this whole album has to do with how screwed up our world is becoming some of the best examples of it are Time to Dance, But It's Better if You Do, and of course I Write Sins Not Tragedies. If you think any of the information I just relayed is based on heresay read the titles of the songs: BUILD GOD THEN WE'LL TALK is like a flashing beacon that says LOOK human falacy is all over this song. Any questions...email me. |
